Senator Paul Wellstone said it best about the relaxing of banking rules
Senator Paul Wellstone, Democrat of Minnesota, said that Congress had ”seemed determined to unlearn the lessons from our past mistakes.”
”I think we will look back in 10 years’ time and say we should not have done this but we did because we forgot the lessons of the past, and that that which is true in the 1930’s is true in 2010,” said Senator Byron L. Dorgan, Democrat of North Dakota. ”I wasn’t around during the 1930’s or the debate over Glass-Steagall. But I was here in the early 1980’s when it was decided to allow the expansion of savings and loans. We have now decided in the name of modernization to forget the lessons of the past, of safety and of soundness.”

The inauguration of Barack Obama 100 days ago gave both progressives and conservatives a chance for a new beginning. Conservatives could have used the opportunity to open up a “big tent†and appeal to moderates. Instead, they’ve retreated into the political wilderness, failing as leaders, legislators, and even as linguists.
I have said it several times. I watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert for news and I watch FOX News for comedy. The guest on the show with Jon Stewart basically says this at the end of this interview. Yes the interview is truly amazing however I think the more telling thing if the fact that the best interview his gues has ever had has been this interview on Comedy Central proving the “news” is not and “comedy” is not. Watch all 3 videos here and just be amazed.
On last night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart’s interview with The Foundation for Defense of Democracies President Cliff May turned to the subject of torture. Things got so intense and involved that the segment had to be edited for time, but here now is the complete discussion.
Yeah guns seem to have one mission. When a gun is shot it is most often shot at someone by accident. People owning guns say it ensures their rights of some sort however if people are more often killed by accident when that gun is shot…and the Constitutional rights gun people think they are protecting are stolen from behind them I can’t see guns are doing people much good.
Bad guys have guns. Well yeah but again….fear of a bad guy results in thousands of not bad guys dying every year.
Peace of mind? Well odds are if that gun is shot it will shoot the wrong person. Not good…not peace of mind.
Actually if there were a mental health program for America as part of a national Health Care plan the criminals might be able to be rehabilitated and actually stopped from killing people as opposed to being stuck in a dog kennel for their prison term and having them come out with more rage than ever before. The recidivism rate is what 80% or so….so if a nationalized health care plan with mental health could reduce that significantly then there would be less crime and less need of normal people to have a gun as protection. As a result fewer people would be killed by accident.
But that is a long way off because the prison industry is privatized and is an investing area for people….and if you invest in prisons….you want more…..PRISONERS hahahahah. And this is….legal? So the point is not helping people the point is imprisoning people. Already there is almost 1% of the nation behind bars…..what is the end point for this….EVERYONE in prison? hahahaah
So there is no prison rehabilitation going on which results in the prisoners being released and then shooting people…there is no health care plan helping those shot people because the point of the Health Care industry is not to help people but to make a profit so therefore actual health care is a secondary thought in the health care industry…and the circle continues because neither industries are there to help people. This is a good thing for America?
Oh…and the people that say “Guns don’t kill people but people kill people.” they should be the most fervent ones pushing for a nationalized Health Care plan which would include mental health care which would reduce those criminals who kill people by helping their mental illness driving them to do what they do. Are they?
If they would have done it legally which would have been more effective anyway. Story is here
I cannot help but see the NRA gun people as losing their war and winning a battle. They always cling to their guns…why? They think they are going to defend their rights. However the numbers show that it isn’t the case. Far more people are shot accidentally each year than protect any rights they may lose. Talk about taking someone else’s rights away!!! And if those rights that are being protected are taken by the government which is a common screech from them then they have completely lost that war. The government in the form of George W. Bush took away the 4th Amendment search and seizure as well as Habaeus Corpus. We no longer have those as tenants of our judicial system as we are monitored everywhere now. But those NRA dopes still have their guns. A lot of good those guns did them huh? Remember when the US invaded Kuwait and Saddam had ALL of those huge huge guns pointed towards the coastline of Kuwait. His thought was the the US was going to come right up the middle through the front door. The US simply went in through Saudi Arabia and then through the back door of Kuwait. All of the guns of Saddam were pointing in the wrong direction. Very easy to go around those dopes…well…the NRA dopes have pointed their big big guns in that same direction and the US govenment went around through the back door and NRA dopes…you lost your rights. But WOW your guns are shiny! You lose NRA.
This is the op ed piece below…………
While more than 12,000 people are murdered with guns annually, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (using the latest available data) tells us that more than 30,000 people are killed over the course of one typical year by guns. That includes 17,000 who commit suicide, nearly 800 who are killed in accidental shootings and more than 300 killed by the police. (In many of the law enforcement shootings, the police officers are reacting to people armed with guns).
And then there are the people who are shot but don’t die. Nearly 70,000 fall into that category in a typical year, including 48,000 who are criminally attacked, 4,200 who survive a suicide attempt, more than 15,000 who are shot accidentally, and more than 1,000 — many with a gun in possession — who are shot by the police
They were simply victims of the Bernie Madoff of climate….the energy companies who did not want it to be. Story is here The day my tolken right wing friend told me he thought there was some sort of temperature thing going on in the world I had to remind him that that thought was contrary to the rest of the conservative conventional wisdom.
Norah ODonnell was very very good in this interview in keeping Liz Cheney’s feet to the fire with the fact that our allowing torture was bad for the world as a whole and would actually have a backlash against us when we try to play the moral card in the future. Multipart video here make sure to watch them all!!! Video is here

Here is a look at the aftermath of Susan Rosgen’s reporting on the Teabaggers. Story is here
Change the economy
Change the environment
Change the people
Change the world
We are all one and if we act as we are not the result is a world as we have now. Science and technology can provide this that religious leaders have spoken of since the beginning of time. The thing that makes it impossible is that people do not want what they truly need. They say they want peace and sharing but the result is war and greed. What if the world worked together? Another Zeitgeist presentation that is based on changing perceptions and changing the world.
I got an email from a relative complaining about the high cost of things in Alaska. That same email kind of worked the Teabaggers into the topic as well as paying more for things in Alaska. So I wrote back the following.
As far as cost of items and taxes they are apples and oranges.
Cost of items- I could pay 25 cents more for gas if I drove into the hills around here. Same city…higher price…remote locations do that. Hawaii and Alaska do have the highest cost for gas and everything…because they are 1000 miles from the source of the thing and it takes transportation costs and overhead to get flour…gas…milk to those remote locations. Who is reaping the benefites? The corporations.  The same corporations that cry that 35% tax is too high for them to pay. AHHHH but wait…EVERY corporation has expenses that are written off on their taxes in which the nation subsidises those corporations in a Socialistic way. So when it comes down to it the corporations pay to move that bread to you and pay those higher prices for transportation AND THEN they turn around and write off that expense and have the US taxpayers pay for it AT THE SAME TIME you are charged more. You DO KNOW that corporations with billions of dollars of revenue pay $0 in Federal Income Tax?? Very common. So YOU pay more Federal Income Tax than many multibillion dollar corporations. SMILE!!
Cost of taxes- Simply input/return. Alaskans per capita get $1.84 in funding for every $1.00 in tax dollar sent to DC. Actually the taxation without representation should be yelled by other states that get less than $1.00 in funding and Alaska should be a target of those protests. If someone gets more than others get how is that fair? Alaska gets more in federal subsidies than other states who pay more and get less.
So who SHOULD the teabaggers be protesting?? Corporations. HOWEVER the corporations motivated the teabaggers to protest someone else because the teabaggers were not paying attention. “LOWER MY TAXES” who is not in for that? BUT….there’s more if they look beyond the bumper sticker which the teabaggers did not do.   The teabag protests were not grassroots things they were concocted by FOX News and several right wing think tanks and corporations. There have been protests against corporations and they resulted in 40 hour workweeks…they resulted in 5 day workweeks….they resulted in children having to be 16 to work…they resulted in a minimum wage and in other nations they STILL have protests for those things. The result in other nations is health care for all….decent retirements for all and a lot more things too. That is seen as the dirty word of “Socialism” these days. However…as they cry that it is Socialistic to have unions and to have health care for all and to have social services…just remember how the corporations are ripping YOU off personally as you buy your highly inflated bread. The tea baggers were steered 180 degrees from what they should have been protesting and those that spoke on TV sounded like idiots as they really didn’t know what they were there for other than they wanted lower taxes. Oh and your health care costs have a $30% overhead while the VA and Medicare have a 2% overhead. Wonder why? Look in the parking lot of the Health Care Corporations and there is your answer. SMILE!!!!
Ummmmm….it was taxes that built the road that the teabaggers drove to the protest on. It was taxes that built the park they were standing in. It was taxes that had the police drive by a few times that night to make sure things were ok. It was taxes that has the fire department and ambulance standing by for fires and in case they get sick. It was taxes that created the internet that has had so much play about this…taught them to read in school…helped come up with vaccines that stopped diseases from killing them and on and on and on. If they lived in a remote area it was taxes that brought electricity and phone service to every house in America. It was taxes that….do so many many many things. Want to see lack of that? Go to a small town in Mexico. Good luck!!! Taxes are why America’s small towns are a good place to live.
#1- The people protesting taxes want something for nothing.
#2- The people protesting taxes…95% of them are GETTING A TAX REFUND UNDER OBAMA!!!!!!!!!
#3- The people protesting taxes are protecting the corporations WHO ARE NOT PAYING TAXES TO BEGIN WITH and write off all expenses and have the taxpayers pay for them. This is Privatizing the Profits while Socialising the Losses. This is Corporate Socilaism.
The tea bagger were protesting FOR Corpoate Socialism at the expense of the individual.
And now go pay $6.00 for a loaf of bread and if you paid for your health insurance you would be paying $600 per month with $200 of that as overhead…and just think where the money goes for that….and then who does and who does not pay taxes for that revenue. And the multimillion dollar houses of those that are bought by the superrich are written off too as they host meetings and parties and conferences there. So their homes are paid for by you the taxpayer. They thank you. Another $6.00 loaf of bread anyone????
The part about Alaska made me laugh outloud in this story. Logic apparently goes out the window when someone is wearing a triangular hat with Lipton as a fashion accessory. OK Alaska…no more taxing you $1.00 and returning $1.84 for every $1.00 you send to DC? Really? There is a problem with that formula for you? Huh? Can I be called Alaska and have that return on my investment please?????? Too funny!!! If someone is wearing Lipton as a fashion statement they do have to be questioned and the answers received are most likely not going to be worth a bag of tea. Story is here
The teabaggers are actually not an original group nor are they Republicans nor are they taking an original tack in what they see as a major issue in America. Story is here

So this angle of the story sure is not getting any play. Why does it seem that when things happen in the world we are not concerned at all in what the people doing it say the reason is? This lack of knowledge about why the Somalis are taking hostages is about as bad as saying they hate us for our freedom…which was a lie from the beginning. Story is here

Ughhhh….he forgets so much so we must assume he is ignorant of the fact that America of the 20th Century… when it became a First World nation has had a very very healthy dose of Socialism injected at every level. Some wonderful Socialistic programs include-
Social Security and Medicare for the elderly-which feeds and houses millions of seniors and keeps them from dying in the streets.
Electricity-power companies did not electrify farm houses in America out of their own good will…it was a huge government program subsiding the electrification of every American home.
Highways-who do you think built the equivalent of the German Audobahn in America?
Farm subsidies- cheap food has been a political policy of every Administration so therefore with good years and bad years the American farmer has been the recipient of a huge handout from Uncle Sam which in result has kept America fed by America.
Nuclear Power-ALLLL of the nuclear power plants have had massive subsidies in their building and maintenance
Sports stadiums-ALLLL sports stadiums in America get tax beaks and subsidies of many sorts.
Education for all…all sorts of science projects including the Internet.
IF SOCIALISM IS SO BAD THEN HE SHOULD NOT BE USING THE SOCIALISTICALLY CREATED INTERNET WHICH IS A CREATION OF THE US DEFENSE DEPARTMENT AND THE DARPA CONCEPT OF DISTRIBUTED SOCIALISTIC DATA. The US Department of Defense (the most massive Socialistic entity ever created) saw the need for data and information to be de-centralized….Socialised if you will. So the precoursor of the Internet was created by the US DoD….so it is a product of Socialism. If you are truly anti-Socialistic…you should not use the internet.
And on and on and on and on…..
A massive dose of Socialism touches everyone in America every day…at every moment…at every corner of the nation. You cannot escape it.
Corporations are the WORST offenders of being Socialistic entities in America. Tell me that with a corporate tax rate of 35% then how do multibillion dollar corporations get away without paying ANY Federal Income tax? Writeoffs. That my friend is called…..TADAHHHH…Socialism.
Privatizing of the profits and Socializing the losses. Corporate writeoffs. It is Corporate Socialism. Do not be fooled. Those who are Free Marketers are nothing more than supporters of Corporate Welfare and redistribution of wealth. Do the leaders of financial corporations really deserve $20 million paychecks? Such obscene paychecks are nothing more than a removal of WORK as the basis of PAY. NO ONE’s work is worth $20 million. This is the expectation of “something for nothing”. The Reagan Administration turned the tide on the poor…pointing the finger at the black welfare queen who was taking a few hundred extra dollars by cheating the system…which is wrong. However they forget the trillions that have been stolen from us by corporate Welfare Queens who do the same thing but with a few more zeros attached to every transaction….but they are not reviled as the poor welfare queens. That exorbitant pay of those executives should be passed along to the stockholders as dividends or additional income for the nation and to not do that is simply to take money from the stockholders. This is robbery. This is Socialism at its worst and being such a bald faced greedy grab it shows America at its worst. This is what Free Marketers want…something for nothing…Socialism.
Ok onto what this goof writes in his blogggg….
He fails to mention the Socialistic trillions in handouts to the rich and superrich over the past 8 years with the dropping of the tax rates resulting in a handout to the rich as never ever before…well other than in the 30s which mirrored our present financial nightmare. It has been the greatest redistribution of wealth as the top 2% of the US took more than 43% of the income in recent years and that percentage is growing. Apparently this is fine with the author of the link above. What would be the limit for such a redistribution of wealth? 50% of the income headed to the top 2%? 75%? 95%? He forgets that the magic of America is that everyone makes enough to buy expensive things. America is America’s main market. If the numbers of people that can buy a car or an HDTV or other items drops then those companies selling those things have tough times. The American Middle Class…. which is defined as being able to comfortably own a home and at least a car and have disposable income afterwards… in 20% of the world economy. Why is the world doing so poorly…the American Middle class is doing so poorly. So the fact that the income of the top 2% dominates the income brackets is a bad thing in and of itself as it is far too concentrated with one group as opposed to being more equally distributed…which is the definiton of the American Dream. In the 80s the top 2% only gained less than 10% of the income of the nation while now it is 43% and they own 59% of all assets in America. How is this bad? Recently the CEO of AT&T received a bonus of $18 million or so for performance of the company at the same time layoffs affected thousands. Can’t you just taste the hypocrisy and lack of logic in that formula? Amazingly bad. How many people could make a good salary with that amount of money to pull from? It is better for America to have one person make that exorbitant amount as opposed to several hundred? I do not see it.
The author of that piece goes to talk about 1776 being gone. Well he fails to mention of course that the Depression of 1933 was created EXACTLY the same way as our current financial problem with a pumping of real estate prices and the resulting bubble crashing. The result of the 1933 Depression…which almost had a rebound in 1937 as Republicans tried to balance the budget…was a number of restrictions on business that served us well until the 90s when those restrictions were repealed….leading to our present financial nightmare which has almost killed the world financially. The 40s and 50s are described by the right wingers as America’s golden years. The tax rate for the superrich at the time was somewhere between 60 and 90 percent depending on the year. Where is their outrage over those times? Eisenhower had a 90% rate for the superrich. America was doing badly then? People like the author from the link above forget such things so quickly.
Then he says something Glen Beckish of the government taking your right to vote away. I wonder if he took a stand against the 4th Amendment being taken away under Bush. I wonder if this guy took a stand against the vote of 2000 and 2004 that were stolen? I wonder if this guy took a stand against America proactively attacking another sovereign nation that did not attack us first? I wonder if he knows what happened to nations in the 30s and 40s that attacked other nations proactively in an aggressive manner regardless the reasons? Again, selective memory loss seems to be a feature of the author from above.
He mentions the government is after him so his paranoia only makes sense. Did you hear of the room in San Francisco in which AT&T sent all internet traffic through which was given a special connection to the NSA providing the US BushCO Government access to everything he said and did on the internet? How about that for taking privacy away? How about the CIA listening to everything he said on the phone in Bush’s time? Apparently those were ok.
Considering the Bush Presidential order decreeing the arbiter of who and who is not a terrorist was the President and only the President…this does net seem like a dictatorship to that writer.
Considering fair elections are a cornerstone of a Democracy the stolen elections of 2000 and 2004 were of no consequence to that author. Without those rights guaranteed to ALL and the right of free elections we had no Democracy at that time
Considering the concepts of the 4th Amendment are the basis of a Democracy and the 4th Amendment has been denied for many, the lack of Democracy was of no consequence for that author. Either we have rights for all…all the time…or we have no rights and we only have PRIVELIDGES. You have privileges until Bush took them away by denying the Guantanamo prisoners theirs. Guantanamo houses terrorists? Tell me of the convictions they have had there and we will see just how legitimate the housing of those prisoners has been and they have been housed only because their 4th Amendment rights have been denied…nullifying the definition of our nation as a Democracy. We are NOT a Democracy by definition.
That author from Faultline USA (and wow is that an ironic name as the fault lies with the right wingers!) has forgotten history and has written quite an assumptive piece as he looks into his crystal ball. One more thing…those predicting the future are “of the Devil” as all Christians know so again he contradicts himself in not knowing of what he speaks nor does. Seers of the future are looked down upon in Christianity. However stupidity is just par for the Christian course.
By the way…Christianity….  www.zeitgeistmovie.com click the link with the big eyeball and watch the 2 hour professionally made documentary describing your Solar Messiah and how you have been taken for a chump by your “religion”. Do you know what the fish on the back of your car really means? Watch the movie and find out the truth.
Your superrich masters thank you for being their chump as well as throwing so much money their way. You don’t need free Health Care as your HMO CEO needs millions (as 33% of your health care check is for overhead NOT for health care as opposed to 2.6 % for the VA or Medicare) just to get by when that could be helping people…you don’t need a union that provides a job…you don’t need a retirement pension you have a 401K….you don’t need Social Security just invest all that into the stock market as it does so well year after year…you don’t need a decent paycheck just as long as your CEO makes millions. WOW…amazing you have sense to breathe! But you cling to your God and your guns…they will help you.
May God save America….FROM you!!!
Unbelievable. This is what unstable people can be coerced to do by people looking for ratings. Story is here FROM FOX NEWS
PITTSBURGH — A man opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, a police official said. Friends said he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.
Three officers were killed, said a police official at the scene who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Police spokeswoman Diane Richard would only say that at least five officers were wounded, but wouldn’t give any other details.
The man who fired at the officers was arrested after a several-hour standoff. One witness reported hearing hundreds of shots.
The shootings occurred just two weeks after four police officers March 21 in Oakland, Calif., in the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since Sept. 11, 2001.
Police did not immediately release the gunman’s identity, but his friends at the scene described him as a young man who thought the Obama administration would ban guns.
One friend, Edward Perkovic, said the gunman feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon.” Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said he feared that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.”
Perkovic, a 22-year-old who said he was the gunman’s best friend, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, “Eddie, I am going to die today. … Tell your family I love them and I love you.”
Perkovic said: “I heard gunshots and he hung up. … He sounded like he was in pain, like he got shot.”
Vire, 23, said the gunman once had an Internet talk show but that it wasn’t successful. Vire said his friend had an AK-47 rifle and several powerful handguns, including a .357 Magnum.
The officers were called to the home in the Stanton Heights neighborhood at about 7 a.m., Richard said.
Tom Moffitt, 51, a city firefighter who lives two blocks away, said he heard about the shooting on his scanner and came to the scene, where he heard “hundreds, just hundreds of shots. And not just once — several times.”
Rob Gift, 45, who lives a block away, said he heard rapid gunfire as he was letting his dog out.
He said the neighborhood of well-kept single-family houses and manicured lawns is home to many police officers, firefighters, paramedics and other city workers.
“It’s just a very quiet neighborhood,” Gift said.
And why they have been so motivated to be the party of “NO”. Story is here

The law, which applies to the minority Shia population, renders meaningless sexual consent within marriage. A Shia woman is allowed to refuse her husband sex if she is sick, but otherwise she has no sexual say-so. As if that weren’t enough of a blow to female freedom, the law, believed to be a desperate bid by Karzai for reelection this summer, also stipulates that women must have their husband’s permission to leave the house.
In sum, the Shia Family Law legally codifies that common, if taboo, cross-cultural belief that a husband deserves free reign over his wife’s body — oh, and his daughters’ bodies. The law bars women from having custody of their own children and endorses child marriage.
Human rights activists say the law annihilates the progress made on women’s rights since the fall of the Taliban. In fact, some say it actually makes things “worse than during the Taliban.” Mm-hm: Worse than the women-hating (-imprisoning, -beating, -flogging, -mutilating, -stoning) Taliban.
