FINALLY – A Democrat says it on the floor of the US House…turning the Death Panel nonsense back at the Republicans

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Story is here

Freshman Congressman Alan Grayson attempted–about 2 months too late–to turn the GOP death panel rhetoric around, taking to the House floor for a late-night, only-for-CSPAN speech to tell the five people watching that “Republicans want you to die quickly.”  The video is located at this page

Although the GOP death panel rhetoric died out in August after Senate Democrats removed from their legislation language that would have allowed Medicare to reimburse doctors for consultations with patients about end-of-life care, Grayson apparently thought he had the speech-making skills to recapture the rhetorical flag from the GOP. And so he said:

“If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly.”

He apologized shortly after making that speech on the floor of  The House.  Here is his apology which must be seen.  A little bit cleaner audio and video is here

And here is a confrontation on CNN with Representative Grayson.

The Republicans had something to say immediately after Grayson spoke to the chamber and that video is here. What the Republicans did not say was that Grayson was correct in that they are not supporting health care for individuals but rather they are supporting the Health Insurance industry.  If the Insurance companies would have wanted to lower costs and contain their overhead which is upwards of 30% they could…but they have yet to do this.  If they wished to strong arm hospitals to put all information into databases and not ask patients 10 times what their problem was they could do that.  If they would lower more costs by reducing the obscene pay scales to their executives and instead insure people with those billions of dollars they could have done that.  Many more things could have been done by insurance companies but it is not being done by insurance companies.  So what needs to be done is a Government Plan with low overhead and the power to strong arm efficiencies into the systems at play here.  This will lower costs of health care for all.  Without it…as the Republicans want…the efficiencies will not be seen and this will simply be a handout to the insurance companies…who in turn will make donations to the lawmakers supporting them.  It is the laundering of money for the benefit of the lawmakers.  If we had publicly funded elections this would not happen.  We do…so it does…and 44,000 people die annually because of it…for the sake of profits.

In America people die for the sake of profits.  This plan is accepted by our nation.  What must the world think of us!

States with the most uninsured and what those opposing Health Care are really fighting FOR.

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Texas is #1.  Story is here.

People who do NOT have insurance DO get treatment and the people who HAVE insurance pay for it.  Now if there was  a national plan to deal with the uninsured as one big group this group would have the ability to get deals for treatment and drugs.  By the laws of mathematics this would drop the cost to deal with uninsured.  This in turn would lower the costs if people WITH insurance continued to pay for those without HOWEVER those without would also pay into the system as it would be cheaper whichj in turn drops the costs to cover them even more.  This is what the people opposed to Health Care Reform seem not to understand.  They have the laws of masses of consumers…a bigger group…more affordable for those without it…all pointing to lower costs to cover those without insurance.

By LAW those without insurance DO get coverage in America.  This is a great law because we are looking out for everyone…that is the first half of the equation.  Next is the paying for that treatment.  Those opposed to Health Care Reform are only opposing it because it is from Obama and they are also FIGHTING FOR HIGHER COSTS.  Again…the laws of mathematics say so as does the laws of history where insurance premiums have doubled in the past 10 years.

It is that simple and those fighting Health Care Reform do not get it.

Do you want cheaper health care costs?  Support Health Care Reform.

Do you want very much higher health care costs?  Oppose Health Care Reform.

Medicare and VA overhead for providing health care to their patients is about 3%.

Private Insurance has upwards of 30% overhead as we were told.  In order to cut 25% off the nation’s health costs simply stop Private Insurance and have everyone receive Medicare For All.  This is simply math.

I’m gonna show you the stuff the nightly news will rarely show you. Ever meet a pilot for American Airlines on food stamps because his pay’s been cut so low? Ever meet a judge who gets kickbacks for sending innocent kids to a private prison? Ever meet someone from the Wall Street Journal who bluntly states on camera that he doesn’t much care for democracy and that capitalism should be our only ruling concern?

You’ll meet all these guys in “Capitalism.” You’ll also meet a whistleblower who, with documents in hand, tells us about the million-dollar-plus sweetheart loans he approved for the head of Senate Banking Committee — the very committee that was supposed to be regulating his lending institution! You’ll hear from a bank regulator why Timothy Geithner has no business being our Treasury Secretary. And you’ll learn, from the woman who heads up the congressional commission charged with keeping an eye on the bailout money, how Alan Greenspan & Co. schemed and connived the public into putting up their inflated valued homes as collateral — thus causing the biggest foreclosure epidemic in our history.

There is now a foreclosure filed in the U.S. once every seven-and-half SECONDS.

None of this is an accident, and I name the names others seem to be afraid to name, the men who have ransacked the pensions of working people and plundered the future of our kids and grandkids. Somehow they thought they were going to get away with this, that we’d believe their Big Lie that this crash was caused by a bunch of low-income people who took out loans they couldn’t afford. Much of the mainstream media bought this storyline. No wonder Wall Street thought they could pull this off.

Jeez, I guess they forgot about me and my crew. You’d think we would’ve made a better impression on these wealthy thieves by now. Guess not.

So here we come! It’s all there, up on the silver screen, two hours of a tragicomedy crime story starring a bunch of vampires who just weren’t satisfied with simply destroying Flint, Michigan — they had to try and see if they could take down the whole damn country. So come see this cops and robbers movie! The robbers this time wear suits and ties, and the cops — well, if you’re willing to accept a guy in a ballcap with a high school education as a stand-in until the real deal shows up to haul ’em away, then I humbly request your presence at your local cinema this weekend in New York and Los Angeles (and next Friday, October 2nd, all across America).

In the meantime, you can catch us on some of the TV shows that have been brave enough to let me on in the past week or so:

Nightline (as we take a stroll down Wall Street to Goldman Sachs)

Good Morning America (where they let me talk about Disney employees who don’t get medical benefits)

The View (where the Republican co-host told everyone to go see it! Whoa!)

The Colbert Report (this guy is a genius, seriously)

Larry King (where a spokesperson for the Senator who got the sweetheart loans responds for the first time)

Keith Olberman (where we both wonder just how long these media corps are going to let us get away with what we do)

Wolf Blitzer (yes, he’s back for more abuse – and lovin’ it)

… And the amazing Jay Leno. This man called me after seeing the movie and asked me to be his only in-studio guest on the second night of his new prime-time show. I said, “Jay, shouldn’t you be thinking of your ratings in the first week of the show? Are you sure you didn’t misdial Tom Hanks’ number (the area code where I live is 231; 213 is LA)?” He told me he was profoundly moved by this film. So I was the guest on his second show, and he told all of America it was my “best film” and to please go see “Capitalism: A Love Story.” That was Jay Leno saying that, not Noam Chomsky or Jane Fonda (both of whom I love dearly). The audience responded enthusiastically and, after 20 years of filmmaking, it was a moment where I crossed over deep into the mainstream of middle America. Jay’s bosses at General Electric musta been… well, let’s just say I hope they didn’t place a reprimand in his permanent record. He’s one helluva guy (and following the example he set with his free concerts for the unemployed in Michigan and Ohio last spring, I’ve gotten permission from the studio to do the same with my film in ten of the hardest-hit cities in the U.S. next week).

Oh, and he made me sing! Prepare yourself!

Thanks everyone — and see you at the movies!

Yours, Michael Moore

Rush Limbaugh adjusts his cochlear earpiece on national TV

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Rush Limbaugh was on Jay Leno last night.  As he sits down with Jay he looks like he scratches the left side of his head but actually he is adjusting his cochlear earpiece.  He received this earpiece as he lost his hearing from his abuse of Oxycontin.  He later drives the electric car.  He refuses a helmet…again…considering he has a delicate cochlear earpiece borged onto the side of his skull he cannot have anything squeeze his head so he cannot wear a helmet.  Again his drug use gets in the way.

The video of him on TV is here.

Latest Republican health care notes

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Here are the latest Republican health care programs in action.  Get your coffee can out and put one at the cash register at your local store.  I think we are going to run out of coffee cans at this rate.

Gary Doepke neeeds medical costs covered.  A soup & sandwich benefit for Gary Doepke will be held Sept. 13 from noon-2:00pm at Washburn Baptist Church. There will also be a silent auction.

Gary is in need of a heart transplant. Proceeds will help cover travel, medical and living expenses.  Story is here

Kathy Minor needs help with medical costs. Please join us from 5:00 to 10:00 PM on Sunday, April 22 for a Benefit and Fundraiser for Kathy (Kat) Minor.
Kat is a wonderful person and has worked at Bud & Alley’s for several years and is not in good health.
Cover charge, a portion of the bar sales, 1/2 of the bartender’s tips and all other money will be donated to Kat to help with Medical and Living expenses.
We will have a band, food, a silent auction, a raffle for a flat screen TV and more.
Help us help Kat!  Story is here

Suzanne Perry did not have insurance and she needs donations.  Local hairstylist Suzanne Perry didn’t know whether the lump she discovered in January 2009 was cancer, but with her family history of breast cancer she knew she couldn’t put off seeing her doctor for very long. Suzanne is now facing what many family members, neighbors and friends are facing and have faced – she didn’t have health insurance.

To help offset Perry’s medical expenses, the public is invited to join a fundraising effort on Friday, September 18. The FREE Hawaiian Luau Dinner/Dance will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church, 750 Seagate Drive in Naples (just west of Waterside Shops).  Story is here

Jeff Frisk needs you to play golf so he can receive chemotherapy as his insurance will only pay a portion of the cost . We invite you to participate in the Jewel of a Day golf tournament in any capacity you can. You can golf, be a sponsor, come out for the luncheon auction, or donate items for the auction/drawing. If you cannot participate in any of these ways, you can always make a donation online or send it to Rocky Mountain Hope directly.  Story is here

A nation as rich as ours has people begging for help like this so they can live.  What does this say about our nation and what it thinks of people?  We have enough money to treat these people with dignity but we don’t.  This is merely putting profits ahead of people.  We are the only “real” nation on Earth where this happens.  Why?  Because we choose it to be this way.  This is the Republican plan for Health Care Reform….get lots of coffee cans.

College student dies from Swine Flu. She did not receive treatment because she had no health insurance

Friday, September 25th, 2009

How many more times do we have to hear this story before we do something? This truly is a national security issue in that the loss of productive people from the workforce for no real reason is a hit to the nation. This is just wrong on so many levels and the only developed “real” nation this happens in is the USA. We’re #1??

When the insurance companies simply lie like this why should we believe they have our best interests at heart

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

It truly is us or them.  They are trying to pull for them.  Meanwhile us is missing out on so many things because the insurance companies simply deny paying for treatment.  It is us and them and if you believe any different you are quite delusional.  So the teabaggers are truly helping them while hurting us.  Story is here

If right now there’s no one between you and your doctor, then why do you have to get things pre-approved?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

If right now there’s no one between you and your doctor, then why do you have to get things pre-approved? @RobinGrantham

Good point!

And that is exactly how the Insurance corporations make their obscene profits.

Profits at 10 of the country’s largest publicly traded health insurance companies rose 428 percent from 2000 to 2007, while consumers paid more for less coverage. One of the major reasons, according to a new study, is the growing lack of competition in the private health insurance industry that has led to near monopoly conditions in many markets.

The report says such conditions warrant a Justice Department investigation and, says Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), provide compelling evidence of the need for a public health insurance plan option as part of the health care reform initiative President Obama and Congress are developing.   Story is here

The term CZAR means nothing. It is merely ADVISOR. If we called them ADVISOR there would not be the complaints but they are the same thing.

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

The White House czars are presidential assistants charged with responsibility for given policy areas. As such, they are among the president’s closest advisers. In many respects, they are equivalent to the personal staff of a member of Congress. To subject the qualifications of such assistants to congressional scrutiny — the regular confirmation process — would trench upon the president’s inherent right, as the head of an independent and equal branch of the federal government, to seek advice and counsel where he sees fit.   Story is here

So Czar=Advisor. The people upset about the term CZAR are really upset over nothing other that a term describing an ADVISOR.  So they truly are upset over nothing.
