Following comments concerning Teaparty directing failures of the GOP, David Frum fired from AEI thinktank

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

David Frum apparently struck too close to the heart of the Teabagger movement in his recent opinion pieces.

This has to be directly related to David Frum’s recent comments which point to the teabagger movement in the failures of the GOP in Congress.  I am drawing this comparison because Frum really had been laying rather low and not a really high profile person but in the past 2 weeks or so his outspoken opinions of radical Teaparty thought has apparently ruffled feathers at his former thinktank resulting in him being fired.  Story is located here

Rep Anthony Weiner sent “white powder” after supporting health care vote

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

The package sent to Weiner’s office may be the latest in a series of threats directed against Democratic Congress members who voted to overhaul the U.S. health care system.

At least four Democratic offices in New York, Arizona and Kansas were struck and at least 10 members of Congress have reported some sort of threats, including obscenity-laced phone messages, congressional leaders have said. No arrests have been reported.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday condemned vandalism and threats against members of Congress who voted to overhaul the U.S. health care system. Republicans joined in, telling people to calm down and saying they too were being targeted in an increasingly venomous political atmosphere.

“I don’t want this to be a distraction” to the work of Congress, Pelosi said. But she also asserted that such violence and threats of reprisal have “no place in a civil debate in our country” and must be rejected.

Her sentiments were echoed minutes later by House Republican leader John Boehner, who said that while many are angry over the health care measure, “threats and violence should not be part of a political debate.”

At least four Democratic offices in New York, Arizona and Kansas were struck and at least 10 members of Congress have reported some sort of threats, including obscenity-laced phone messages, congressional leaders have said. No arrests have been reported.

The House’s No. 3 Republican, Eric Cantor of Virginia, said at a brief news conference Thursday that someone fired a bullet through a window of his campaign office in Richmond this week and he has received threatening e-mails.  Story is located here

Dick Cheney called out to people’s Reptilian part of their brains as FOX News does now

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

This fits the issues we see with media figures on FOX News reaching out to people’s Reptilian parts of their brains.  It is a part of the brain that is even sub the subconscious.  Story is located here

It’s Willie Horton all over again. The Bush family is subjecting Americans to psychological operations, only the level of sophistication and deception is an order of magnitude higher than it was in 1988. And it could turn the election, if not used effectively in rebuttal.

Here’s how it works, and how Dick Cheney just used it masterfully:

We humans, being the product of a long evolutionary process, really have three brains. And, as the Bush psy-ops folks know, politicians who win campaigns do so because they speak to all three of those brains.

First there’s the most primitive of our brains, sometimes referred to as the “reptilian brain” because we share it in common with reptiles like alligators and komodo dragons. The reptile brain has a singular focus: survival. It doesn’t think in abstract terms, and doesn’t feel complex emotions. Instead, it’s responsible for fight-or-flight, hunger and fear, attack or run. It’s also non-verbal – you can stimulate it with the right words, but it operates purely at the level of visceral stimulus-response.

The second brain is one we share with the animals that came along after reptiles – mammals. The mammalian brain – sometimes referred to as the Limbic Brain because it extends around and off of the reptilian brain in a dog-leg shape that resembles a limb – handles complex emotions like love, indignation, compassion, envy, and hope. Anybody who’s worked with animals or had a pet knows that mammals share these emotions with humans, because we share this brain. While a snake can’t feel shame or enthusiasm, it’s completely natural for a dog or cat. And, like the reptile brain, the mammalian brain can also be stimulated indirectly by words, and is also non-verbal. It expresses itself exclusively in the form of feelings, although these are more often felt in the heart than the gut.  Story is located here

Demographic breakdown shows young people are very much pro-health care reform

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

PRINCETON, NJ — While 49% of Americans overall say Congress’ passing healthcare reform is a “good thing,” support is greater among Americans who currently lack health insurance. Passage of the bill also enjoys broad support among two of the populations least likely to have health insurance: younger adults and adults living in lower-income households. Older, higher-income, and insured Americans have more mixed reactions. The lone exception is seniors, 54% of whom see passage of the bill as a negative.  Full poll is here

Typical survivalist location with a massive contradiction in their concept!!!!!

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

This is a real Real Estate listing.  No fooling.  Below is the listing for the independent survivalist that needed a GRANT in order to get water to the house. HA! They needed Socialistic grant from STATE to live there.  Sorry independent survivalist you LOSE!!!!  This really falls into the same category of the Teaparty people screeching “Keep your Government hands off my Medicare!”

This was a bunker, supposedly built during the cold war, it is unique in that it is above ground. This property is located in a very remote; surrounded by BLM land for many miles.

It is the only private land for 12 miles. There are hidden caves which I will show to the new owner. These caves have not likely seen any humans besides myself and my boys.
The property comes with 2.3 acre feet of water, which needs to be drilled, but we have three thousand gallons of storage. We collect the rain and snow runoff from our roofs and that provides us with ample water for the year and then some. There are also a couple hundred thousand gallons stored very close which I will discuss with the new owner as well.
This house is not fancy or elegant but it is a great start for a true survivalist on a budget.
We do not have septic, instead, we re-use our gray water for gardening. As far as sewage, we do not produce any sewage other than a small amount from a high-tech toilet called a BIOLET. These are composting toilets that are amazing, check them out on the net.
Plenty of hunting; there are deer, rabbit, and quail on our property every day. The taxes are only $430 a year because we only have an acre. It feels like so much more property because the BLM land goes on and on. Step outside the front door and you can fire a pistol, throw knives, strip naked, whatever! We pay what little bills we have by way of an internet business, and this year we will have a number of TBH beehives (Plenty of wildflowers to harvest honey). We will happily teach these skills to the new owner.
There is no real garage but we built a cob house with a metal roof, it’s plenty big enough for a car although we use it for water storage. We paid 110K for the bunker then put 15K into framing, and drywall, another 5K into the heater and AC. Several thousand into our water system, and finally got the water from the state which was a grant, but if you tried to buy it, it would have cost around 25K. We are open to any reasonable offer!
This is a die-hard survivalist home so don’t bother buying it if you can’t handle the work and isolation. We are finally adapting and it took us three years. I live here with children who actually love it now that they have gotten used to it. We are moving to an area where we can build a cob house. The pictures do not include photos of the new cabinets, closet shelves, or heater and AC.

Sheperd Smith calms viewers down while Beck fires viewers up

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

A pretty good review of the Teabaggers revolt in DC after the signing of Health Care Reform

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

I had, in fact, spent a portion of my day among these Tea Party protesters, wandering among them with a video camera in the hours before that afternoon’s massive March For America. (And it has to be mentioned that this crowd, of several hundred at best, was utterly dwarfed by the crowd of immigration-reform activists behind them, estimated to be 200,000 strong, a contrast that must — or should — have struck some of them as a wee bit ominous for their Beckian claim that “We Surround Them”.)

As you can see, some of the leaders of the chants were not above some ugliness in the process. A woman reporter from the local ABC affiliate was mercilessly harassed by one of the bullhorn holders, as you can see. And there was no shortage of kooky signs.  Story is located here

John McCain new bumper sticker- Me First

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Video is located here

John McCain, who’s really upset he’s not President, has taken it out on the bark beetle.

In the Senate, you need unanimous consent to do pretty much anything. Among the UC requests habitually given is the ability to hold committee hearings after 2:00pm ET.

Mark Udall scheduled a hearing on the bark beetle, a pernicious critter that is harming plant life in the Interior West. John McCain was his partner on legislation that would attempt to deal with the problem. But John McCain has vowed not to work for the rest of the year – and presumably put his fingers in his ears and hold his breath until he turns blue – because of the passage of health care reform. So today, he withheld the unanimous consent request.

George W. Bush is a germphobe. He wipes his hands on Bill Clinton’s shirt here after shaking hands with Hatians.

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

This is pretty weird. George W. Bush is a germphobe known for wiping hands and things on other people’s clothing.  Here he is wiping his hands on President Clinton’s shirt. Amazing to think that this man who sent people to die in a war cannot touch normal people.  Of course it all makes sense since he was born into wealth and power so why would he need to deal with common people or other people at all.  He would wipe his hands of others while they did his dirty work.

The government can mandate you buying health care insurance

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Yesterday, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli announced that he would join a growing list of right-wing attorneys general who are suing to have health reform declared unconstitutional. According to Cuccinelli, the new law’s provisions that require individuals to carry health insurance violate the Constitution because “at no time in our history has the government mandated its citizens buy a good or service.” The truth, however, is that the Second Militia Act of 1792, required a significant percentage of the U.S. civilian population to purchase a long list of military equipment:  Story is here

We are not denying Beck or anyone else their First Amendment rights. He can say anything he wants. But advertisers don’t have to support his brand of hate mongering, and audiences don’t have to take Fox News seriously if one of its top names has become a “circus clown.”

Actually, Beck is worse than a clown. He’s more like a terrorist who believes he has discovered the One True Faith, and condemns everyone else as a heretic. And that makes him something else as well — a traitor to the American values he professes so loudly to defend.  Story is here

Michele Bachman’s new title- Welfare Queen

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Story is located here

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) — so fond of accusing the Obama administration of foisting socialism on an unwilling America — has apparently been the recipient of about a quarter of million bucks in government handouts.

Liberal site Truthdig links to an Environmental Working Group analysis of federal agricultural subsidies and found that the Bachmann family farm, managed by her father-in-law until his recent death, received $251,000 in farm payments between 1995 and 2006.

Bachmann’s financial disclosure forms indicate her stake in the Wisconsin farm is worth up to $250,000. Her income from the farm has grown from $2,000 a year a few years back to as much as $50,000 for 2008.

Instead of having more power than people have as they do now…corporations once were held in check

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

In 1776 we declared our independence not only from British rule, but also from the corporations of England that controlled trade and extracted wealth from the U.S. (and other) colonies. Thus, in the early days of our country, we only allowed corporations to be chartered (licensed to operate) to serve explicitly as a tool to gather investment and disperse financial liability in order to provide public goods, such as construction of roads, bridges or canals.
After fighting a revolution for freedom from colonialism, our country’s founders retained a healthy fear of the similar threats posed by corporate power and wisely limited corporations exclusively to a business role.  Story is located here

Bill Press comments on Glenn Beck

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Story is located here

It’s embarrassing, how gullible we are.

We’ve been surrounded by Christians all these years. We might have even become one ourselves. We were impressed by the good works they did: helping the poor, opening soup kitchens, sponsoring homeless shelters, fighting for workers’ rights.

How gullible we are. Little did we realize that all those Christian good works — which they call “social justice,” or “economic justice” — were nothing but a front for communism. And all of those practitioners of the “Social Gospel” were nothing but communist agents.

But now we know, thanks to Fox megastar Glenn Beck. On his March 2 radio show, Beck busted the whole centuries-long myth of Christianity and exposed it for what it really is.

“I beg you,” he implored his listeners, “look for the words ‘social justice’ or ‘economic justice’ on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, am I advising people to leave their church? Yes! … If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish. Go alert your bishop.”

And Beck left no doubt about what he meant by “code words.” He made clear that he was equating Christianity with communism and Nazism: “Communists are on the left, and the Nazis are on the right. That’s what people say. But they both subscribe to one philosophy, and they flew one banner. … But on each banner, read the words, here in America: ‘social justice.’ They talked about economic justice, rights of the workers, redistribution of wealth and, surprisingly, democracy.”

In Glenn Beck’s twisted mind, in other words, there is no difference between Christianity, communism and Nazism. What a sick, sick, sick man.

Who was the man with Parkinson’s receiving the wrath of the teabaggers?

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Here is the story on this man

Last Tuesday, i got up,, made my sign, went to the demonstration, and came home. I thought it was over. But I guess i was wrong on that! My sign borrowed from the “Got Milk?” ad:

Got Parkinson’s?
I DO and YOU might
Thanks for helping!
That’s community

Medicare paid for brain surgery that significantly mitigated my suffering. When I got my brain implants turned on, life became almost ordinary for awhile–and we all cried tears of happiness. That’s why I can honestly say that I am not driven by “EGO”; rather, I am driven by “I-OWE”.

But Parkinson’s is still eating away at my nervous system, and some day I’ll die from it. In the meantime, I have dedicated myself to thanking my family and friends, and the broader public for helping me. I do so mostly by writing, and occasionally by putting myself in harm’s way, to bring attention, not to me–i’m the luckiest guy since Lou Gehrig–but to people who need help so badly and couldn’t make the rally.

My hope is that my Mother and deceased Father would be proud of me.

Robert A. Letcher, PhD

A look at GOP vs Democratic look at health care reform successes or how it is impossible for the GOP to be more callous and more wrong.

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Full story is located here

The day before Sunday’s health care vote, President Obama gave an unscripted talk to House Democrats. Near the end, he spoke about why his party should pass reform: “Every once in a while a moment comes where you have a chance to vindicate all those best hopes that you had about yourself, about this country, where you have a chance to make good on those promises that you made … And this is the time to make true on that promise. We are not bound to win, but we are bound to be true. We are not bound to succeed, but we are bound to let whatever light we have shine.”

And on the other side, here’s what Newt Gingrich, the Republican former speaker of the House — a man celebrated by many in his party as an intellectual leader — had to say: If Democrats pass health reform, “They will have destroyed their party much as Lyndon Johnson shattered the Democratic Party for 40 years” by passing civil rights legislation.

This is, of course, a political victory for President Obama, and a triumph for Nancy Pelosi, the House speaker. But it is also a victory for America’s soul. In the end, a vicious, unprincipled fear offensive failed to block reform. This time, fear struck out.

10 great reasons why YOU need health care reform

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

EVERY Republican voted against this plan which will provide the following listed below.

18 reasons why you need this health care reform are shown here

Story is located here

As soon as health care passes, the American people will see immediate benefits. The legislation will:

  • Prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans;
  • Provide immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition through a temporary high-risk pool;
  • Prohibit dropping people from coverage when they get sick in all individual plans;
  • Lower seniors prescription drug prices by beginning to close the donut hole;
  • Offer tax credits to small businesses to purchase coverage;
  • Eliminate lifetime limits and restrictive annual limits on benefits in all plans;
  • Require plans to cover an enrollee’s dependent children until age 26;
  • Require new plans to cover preventive services and immunizations without cost-sharing;
  • Ensure consumers have access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions;
  • Require premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and require public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs.

By enacting these provisions right away, and others over time, we will be able to lower costs for everyone and give all Americans and small businesses more control over their health care choices.

Did I say 10…these may be a little redundant but they are good

  • It expands health insurance coverage to 32 million Americans, guaranteeing that 95% of Americans will be covered.
  • It makes health insurance affordable for middle class and small businesses — including the largest middle class tax cuts for health care in history — reducing premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
  • It strengthens consumer protections and reins in insurance company abuses.
  • It gives millions of Americans the same types of private insurance choices that members of Congress will have — through a new competitive health insurance market that keeps costs down.
  • It holds insurance companies accountable to keep premiums down and prevent denials of care and coverage, including for pre-existing conditions.
  • It improves Medicare benefits with lower prescription drug costs for those in the ‘donut hole,’ better chronic care, free preventive care, and nearly a decade more of solvency for Medicare.
  • It reduces the deficit by more than $100 billion over next ten years, and by more than one trillion dollars over the following decade; reining waste, fraud and abuse; overpayments to insurance companies and by paying for quality over quantity of care.

Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Former George W. Bush speechwriter David Frum explains that the place the Teabaggers brought the GOP is a place that is a no win location.  Story is located here

Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.

It’s hard to exaggerate the magnitude of the disaster. Conservatives may cheer themselves that they’ll compensate for today’s expected vote with a big win in the November 2010 elections. But:

(1) It’s a good bet that conservatives are over-optimistic about November – by then the economy will have improved and the immediate goodies in the healthcare bill will be reaching key voting blocs.

(2) So what? Legislative majorities come and go. This healthcare bill is forever. A win in November is very poor compensation for this debacle now.

So far, I think a lot of conservatives will agree with me. Now comes the hard lesson:

A huge part of the blame for today’s disaster attaches to conservatives and Republicans ourselves.

At the beginning of this process we made a strategic decision: unlike, say, Democrats in 2001 when President Bush proposed his first tax cut, we would make no deal with the administration. No negotiations, no compromise, nothing. We were going for all the marbles. This would be Obama’s Waterloo – just as healthcare was Clinton’s in 1994.

Only, the hardliners overlooked a few key facts: Obama was elected with 53% of the vote, not Clinton’s 42%. The liberal block within the Democratic congressional caucus is bigger and stronger than it was in 1993-94. And of course the Democrats also remember their history, and also remember the consequences of their 1994 failure.

This time, when we went for all the marbles, we ended with none.

So much for this survey being carried out by a group slanted against Teabaggers but rather this one was carried out by David Frum who is a noted speechwriter for W.  This survey was carried out by a Conservative group.  The bottom line for the survey results is that Teaparty people when asked facts about what they are angry about…they just don’t know the facts.

And the survey also includes the correct answers…so to play the game correctly and to see what you know grab a pen…yes a pen….and write down the answers to the following questions and see what you know or do not know as compared to the Teaparty people who were kinda lost.

The questions asked in the survery are as follows

Survey Question Wording
1) In approximate percentage terms, how much is the U.S. (federal) government currently taking out of the U.S. economy in taxation?
2) Do you think this is more or less than before Obama?
3) How much federal income tax do you think a typical family earning $50,000 pays (in dollars)?
4) How many years of US oil consumption do you think we could extract by opening the entire Alaska wildlife reserve (based on present rates of consumption)?
5) Compared to other countries, how do you think the U.S. ranks in the world for life expectancy?
6) Do you think the general economic situation in the country is improving or deteriorating as compared to one year ago?
7) Is your personal economic situation, better, worse or the same as two years ago?

One would think that if they were so mad about something they may try to learn about what they are so mad about.  Guess not.

DailyKos had a survey a while back showing right-wingers are not…um….socially minded…to put it lightly.  Their results are located here.  Analysis of the DailyKos poll is here

So the bottom line of the survey using their language is found in Luke 23:34 –  Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Hannity caught with a charity doing very little charity work

Friday, March 19th, 2010

The tax forms available to the public for the Freedom Alliance–for the years 2006-2008–paint a tragic story, a story of a charity that makes gazillions and spends very little for the purposes it claims, a charity that spends millions more on its small staff and crony consultants than it ever gives in scholarships to the children of the fallen or severely injured troops or in aid to the injured troops themselves.  While Hannity’s Freedom Concerts take in millions, only a few hundred thousand go to the claimed intended recipients.

Chris Matthews and a typical teaparty anti-Health Care person prove that the teaparty people have no idea and they have no ideas

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Chris Matthews really holds this anti-Health care reform teaparty guy’s feet to the fire.  The guest is the leader of the teaparty group Americans for Prosperity.  His group hosted a protest in Columbus Ohio which has received a lot of negative attention because the protest turned very ugly once a man with Parkinson’s Disease appeared and he held a sign up to the teaparty group supporting Obama’s Health Care Reform plan.  The video showed the teaparty people being just horrible to this man that has this deadly disease and highlighted that the teaparty group showed no care nor compassion for him at all.  This truly is the stance of the teaparty people in so many things in that their mantra is that they ask, “Why should I pay for you?”  The obvious answer is because someone has paid for YOU.  Chris does a good job of explaining a quick scenario of a motorcycle crash and how the Socialistic commons helps someone who is possibly a victim in a circumstance like this overcome the victimization of being in an accident they did not cause.  Or even if they did cause it those Socialistic commons again help get this person better because when a member of society is down he must be lifted up in order to become a productive member of society.  The teaparty people do not see this.  The teaparty people do not see that it costs them MORE to have that person sick than it does to have that Parkinson guy healthy.  So the logical thing to do would be to use the system we have now to get those people insured and get them lined up with regular medical care, subsidized if necessary.  Hopefully we can change this system to something better down the road because with the planned reform we will save money as opposed to the current system however there are other ways to keep people healthy and pay less to get more.  So the teaparty people who truly believe there is no reform necessary refuse to see the millions of people who need it.  And those people also claim there are “death panel” which will be killing people.  Their removal from reality…lack of ability to see the masses of sick people in front of them and their callousness when opposing help for those sick people is truly shocking.

Chris Matthews with the interview of this man who is shockingly out of touch with reality.  He is a teaparty leader which makes sense considering his lack of sense.  Video is located here

God and Science are apples and oranges

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Thom Hartmann on his radio show takes a caller who really has no idea what science is (the caller was homeschooled) and makes quite a few claims which do not hold water. Thom explains that the story of Adam and Eve and Cain and Able are merely a story about the creation of a TRIBE as opposed to the creation of the human population of the EARTH. The problem is that scientists 99% of the time call their theories THEORIES not because they don’t believe them but because the search for truth is never ending and it can be altered however as far as they can tell this seems to be this way things work. This in conflict of religious thought of Creationism which calls it a fact however it is not a fact nor theory but rather a story. The STORIES of the Bible are not the same as THEORIES of SCIENCE or FACTS of SCIENCE. So when it comes to facts God and Science are apples and oranges. And that is a fact.  Video is located here

Here comes another debt related bomb that could hurt the US economy

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

When the Mayans envisioned the world coming to an end in 2012 — at least in the Hollywood telling — they didn’t count junk bonds among the perils that would lead to worldwide disaster, Nelson D. Schwartz writes in The New York Times.

Maybe they should have, because 2012 also is the beginning of a three-year period in which more than $700 billion in risky, high-yield corporate debt begins to come due, an extraordinary surge that some analysts fear could overload the debt markets.

With huge bills about to hit corporations and the federal government around the same time, the worry is that some companies will have trouble getting new loans, spurring defaults and a wave of bankruptcies.

The United States government alone will need to borrow nearly $2 trillion in 2012, to bridge the projected budget deficit for that year and to refinance existing debt.  Story is located here

A lot of this debt has to do with Mergers and Acquisitions. Basically those corporations buy parts or companies with loaned money so the newly bought company is born as a result of massive debt.  Much of that debt is coming due and the question is how it is going to be paid.  How do Mergers and Acquisitions work?  Video is located here

Why is America so afraid to tax the super-rich?

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

In the 1950s the marginal tax rate on those earning more than $3 million a year (in today’s dollars) was 91 percent. By 1990 it was 28 percent. The IRS says that the top 400 richest tax filers actually paid a rate of just 16 percent in 2007 (the latest numbers we have). Yep, the richest earners — people who took in an average of $343 million each — probably paid a lower rate than you did. Something to consider as you sign your 2009 return.  Story is here

Todd Palin snowmobiling team sponsored by Hugo Chavez

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Story is located here

Political blogs in Alaska are harpooning former first couple Sarah and Todd Palin for associating with a Venezuelan oil company, in spite of former Gov. Sarah Palin’s condemnations of the Venezuelan government and her calls for energy independence.

Sarah Palin’s husband Todd was part of an Iron Dog snowmobile racing team this year sponsored by Mystik Lubricants, a division of the Venezuelan oil company Citgo.

“Yes, that same Citgo that’s owned by Venezuela. Socialist Venezuela. Socialist, Hugo Chavez lovin’, Venezuela,” wrote Jeanne Devon of the blog the Mudflats.

As the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin called Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez a “dictator” and called for “energy independence … to allow us to be less and less reliant on someone like Hugo Chavez,” the Washington Post points out.
