Labor Supply and Demand is out of whack due to Reaganomics

Friday, April 30th, 2010

If labor Supply and Demand were back in sync as they were prior to Reaganomics this would be a far better nation.  Thom Hartmann explains how Reaganomics and Bushonomics really hurt the nation when they allowed this to be out of balance.  Video is located here

FOX News lies about the $50 billion liquidation portion of Financial Reform

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

During Fox News host Gregg Jarrett’s interview with Sen. Jim DeMint, on-screen text displayed two “FOXfact[s]” that falsely referred to a “$50 bil[lion] bailout fund” contained in financial regulatory reform legislation. Jarrett then asked DeMint if President Obama and others were “deliberately trying to mislead the American public” about the nature of the fund. In fact, the fund would provide for the orderly liquidation of failing firms, not bail them out.  Story is located here

Thomas Jefferson was specifically not seeking the USA to be a Christian nation

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Thom Hartmann debunks one of the things that Right Wing Fundamentalists use to claim wrongly that Thomas Jefferson wanted the nation to be a Christian nation.  The clincher comes at the very end of this video in that Republicans try to tie religion into politics so they can avoid the fact that they do not wish to talk about economic equality.  Video is located here

Mormonism vs Fundamentalist Christianity

Anderson Cooper shows Birther legislator completely lacks logic in his Birther bill…in Arizona

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

What is the deal with Arizona? Anderson Cooper showed up for work last night and went to task on Arizona Republican  State Representative Cecil Ash, calling him out, time after time, for his bigoted and unsubstantiated, and disproved, statements of concern and belief with regards to Obama’s legitimacy as an American citizen.  Apparently this legislator believes the Earth is flat.  Video and story are here.

The email lies about Obama are skyrocketing

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

After eight years in the White House (with around all that time), George W. Bush has been the subject of 47 internet rumors. After less than two years in office, Barack Obama has been the subject of 87, or nearly twice as many.  Even more telling is the relative accuracy of those stories. For Bush, 20 rumors, or 43%, are true. Only 17, or 36%, are false. The remainder are of mixed veracity (4), undetermined (4), or unclassifiable (2).In contrast, for Obama only 8 of the 87 rumors, or 9%, are true, and a whopping 59, or 68%, are whoppers. There are 17 of mixed veracity and 3 undetermined.  Story is located here

Ron Paul says Obama is not a Socialist

Monday, April 26th, 2010

When he is a called a socialist, the President and his defenders can easily deflect that charge by pointing out that the historical meaning of socialism is government ownership of industry; under the President’s policies, industry remains in nominally private hands. Using the more accurate term – corporatism – forces the President to defend his policies that increase government control of private industries and expand de facto subsidies to big businesses. This also promotes the understanding that though the current system may not be pure socialism, neither is it free-market since government controls the private sector through taxes, regulations, and subsidies, and has done so for decades.   Story is located here

The Arizona “Papers Please” law is nothing more than Republicans trying to skew the vote.

Monday, April 26th, 2010

by Greg Palast.  Story is located here

[Phoenix, AZ.] Don’t be fooled. The way the media plays the story, it was a wave of racist, anti-immigrant hysteria that moved Arizona Republicans to pass a sick little law, signed last week, requiring every person in the state to carry papers proving they are US citizens.

I don’t buy it. Anti-Hispanic hysteria has always been as much a part of Arizona as the Saguaro cactus and excessive air-conditioning.

What’s new here is not the politicians’ fear of a xenophobic “Teabag” uprising.

What moved GOP Governor Jan Brewer to sign the Soviet-style show-me-your-papers law is the exploding number of legal Hispanics, US citizens all, who are daring to vote — and daring to vote Democratic by more than two-to-one. Unless this demographic locomotive is halted, Arizona Republicans know their party will soon be electoral toast. Or, if you like, tortillas.

In 2008, working for Rolling Stone with civil rights attorney Bobby Kennedy, our team flew to Arizona to investigate what smelled like an electoral pogrom against Chicano voters … directed by one Jan Brewer.

Brewer, then Secretary of State, had organized a racially loaded purge of the voter rolls that would have made Katherine Harris blush. Beginning after the 2004 election, under Brewer’s command, no less than 100,000 voters, overwhelming Hispanics, were blocked from registering to vote. In 2005, the first year of the Great Brown-Out, one in three Phoenix residents found their registration applications rejected.   Story is located here

Despite the crisis, the list of billionaires has grown by 218 people and their aggregate capital has expanded by 50%. This may seem paradoxical, but only at first glance. IS there nothing the right-wingers WON’T go after Obama about?

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

If you have traveled to other nations you will have noted their money.  It often times is a different size or different feel and they have other measures that make it more difficult to counterfeit.  Here is a site that outlines how to detect counterfeit bills.

Getting back to the main story for this post…the US Treasury will be issuing new $100 bills.  These new bills will look different and have several anti-counterfeiting measures.  Instead of being glad we are securing our money supply, a number of right-wingers have tried to tie the change of bills to Obama in trying to make Obama seem like a foreigner as our bills will look like other nation’s money.  Drudge flew this convoluted illogical flag in a front page post yesterday.  Drudge is of course a mainstay of Republicans and Teabaggers online.  Another look at the Drudge story is posted here with comment.

A video showing the new $100 bills coming off the line is located here.

Food Inc.

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Watch the documentary Food Inc in its entirety through 4/29/10 here.  It aired recently on PBS and may be replayed on your PBS station soon.

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that’s been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli — the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (“Fast Food Nation”), Michael Pollan (“The Omnivore’s Dilemma”) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield Farms’ Gary Hirschberg and Polyface Farms’ Joel Salatin, Food, Inc. reveals surprising — and often shocking truths — about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

Food, Inc. will be accompanied by Notes on Milk, a short variation of the 2007 feature documentary Milk in the Land: Ballad of an American Drink. Ariana Gerstein and Monteith McCollum, whose Hybrid aired on POV in 2002, take a quirky and poetic look at some lesser-known aspects of America’s favorite drink: the industry’s spiritual underpinnings, politics and the struggle of independent farmers.  Story is located here

Glenn Beck backpedaling about the past and breaking new ground on his route to being insane

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

There’s no denying that Glenn Beck is nothing if not a masterful performer. He’s talented, but at the same time, he’s transparently derivative. Glenn Beck is, at once, capable of borrowing the most effectively persuasive techniques available in order to manipulate his audience, and he’s gifted enough to pull it off. But what are the consequences? Like it or not, he’s a major player and activator right now and so he’s achieved, for his part, a gravitational field that pulls upon the trajectory of American political discourse. That makes his role a serious one. One with consequences. He’s pumping the discourse with nonsense, false history and pure coincidence while also resurrecting McCarthy style communist witch hunts.

Glenn Beck is a political faith healer. And the sooner his viewers recognize the scam, the better off they’ll be.

Oh, and it turns out that all this talk of “the plan” appears to be nothing more than a way to plug a book — over and over and over again. Specifically, Glenn Beck’s latest book just happens to be titled The Plan. Coincidence?   Story is located here

A day in the life of Joe Republican

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

I got this post from DailyKos

I have enhanced it quite a bit.

–A Day in the Life of Joe Republican–

A story floating around the internet…

Midnight.  Joe is asleep and his house is safe.  His house was built according to zoning laws enacted by his city which makes his house able to withstand earthquakes…his electrical system has to be installed by a professional and the house have to be livable overall.  The police and fire departments and ambulance are on duty.  Those public service agencies are paid for by taxes and benefit everyone.  He lives in the Southeast possibly and if that’s the case the Tennessee Valley Authority could be supplying power to his house.  The TVA was a massive government program bringing power to the very poor rural area of the Southeast.  Joe Repub may live near a nuclear power plant which are 100% backed by government insurance because they simply cannot buy private insurance.  Power plant land is often times subsidized by lowered taxes for the utility so the power plant itself is receiving government subsidies every year so it can operate.  So Uncle Sam has a big hand in producing his power at every level and of course the electrical grid is massively subsidized and backed by government dollars.

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. Joe doesn’t realize the massive opposition to the clean water and clean air acts came from Republicans.  With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer’s medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance – now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry opposed by Free Market Conservatives.  The government has mandated safe levels of lead in his mugs and plates…the government mandated other things such as the treatment of those animals on those farms and the pesticides and herbicides used to grow his food.  Joe remembers some chemicals taken off the market once proven unsafe despite those corporations fighting tooth and nail to NOT have their product removed from the market.  Joe looks at his dog and remembers China producing tainted dog food and sending us toothpaste with chemicals and is thankful he got none of that because it is illegal here…but China does not have those government regulations.  The Free Market there allows such things.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union.  Joe doesn’t remember the book The Jungle nor does Joe recall child labor laws and weekends off of work which unions and Liberals fought for.  Joe just knows the road to his family in the hills was recently repaved…paid for by tax dollars and that gets him back home quicker when he is done with the family.

If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn’t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.  Joe remembers the workers in the West Virginia mine that had the boss that focused more on production than safety and the result there was 29 dead…but the boss became a millionaire 20 times over….every year.

It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.  Joe doesn’t know a BANK RUN was the end result of a recession that turned into a depression in the 1930s and it was first come-first serve until the bank was out of money.  Joe doesn’t know that because bank runs have become a thing of the past due to government regulations.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads.  The amount of pollution produced by the car makes his air cleaner for him to breathe and this was brought on by government mandate.  Joe does not remember but seatbelts were once not a standard feature in cars.  Uncle Sam ordered car manufacturers to do it despite their protest against seatbelts.

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers’ Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans.

The house didn’t have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification.  The rural house did not have a phone service either until Uncle Sam mandated phone service to every home in America.  TV is big here and satellite technology of course was a big government program and the FCC oversees broadcasters so Joe can see the same TV programming as anyone anywhere in the US.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to.  Joe doesn’t realize that pensions are becoming a thing of the past and the possibility of Joe having no income when he gets older is a reality.  Pensions have gone by the wayside as corporate America chooses higher profits for this quarter or to pay their CEO millions upon millions of dollars.  Joe does not complain but his future is really questionable.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn’t mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: “We don’t need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I’m a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have.”  That talk show host renewed his multi-million dollar contract.  Joe makes an average salary and Joe believes a multi-millionaire has Joe’s best interest at heart.

Talking points for gun owners if a reporter walks up to them

It is the corporate feudalism stupid

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

It’s tragic that instead of standing up to the real villains, the tea baggers have been co-opted by the very powers at the core of their grievance. But the truth is, they’ll only get coverage on FOX News as long as they’re doing the bidding of their feudal lords. The second they realize they’ve been had, there won’t be a TV camera in sight. They’ll be as invisible as the war protesters and environmental activists. Which is to say, they’ll no longer have the King’s purse behind them.  Story is located here

FOX News tried to shape the agenda of the Iraq War- Rupert Murdoch

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Journalists do not try to shape the news they report on the facts.  FOX News tried to shape the thought of the Iraq War and Rupert Murdoch admits they failed.  Murdoch admitted it…he owns FOX.

How can anyone ever again take seriously Fox News or any of Murdoch’s other instruments of bias? How can News Corp. continue to pretend that they are “fair and balanced?” How can any other media company exhibit the slightest expression of respect or patronization?  Story is located here

If the Sunday talk shows were to fact check their guests that would be such a service to the public at large…but they don’t.

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

David Gregory, the host of NBC’s Meet the Press, has painted himself into a strange corner with his assertion that there’s no need to fact check what his guests say on the air because viewers can do that “on their own terms.”  His competitor, Jake Tapper of ABC News, disagrees. Tapper has instituted the after-the-show fact check on This Week. It is a story in which I am a participant, as you will see from the time line I have constructed. I will offer a brief comment on what I think is going on here at the conclusion of the time line.  Story is located here

How to talk to a Teabagger…and win

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

We’ll be hearing a lot about the tea party movement on tax day. They will be angry, and some of that anger at the tax system will be justified.

Like all social movements, the tea party wave is not monolithic. There are hard-core libertarians, white supremacists and partisan Republicans that are not interested in dialogue. But in my conversations with rank-and-file tea party activists, there are important points of common ground.

Many participants have seen their personal economic security devastated by the economic meltdown. They are worried about their tax bills, national debt and the economy their children will inherit. They feel isolated and the tea party is a community.

Here are a few conversation points I’ve found useful in talking with the open-minded participants at tea party activities:   Story is located here

Sen. John McCain introduced S.3081, The “Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010.”

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

This entry was a comment made on this site.

Next Stop Fascism?

Does Sarah Palin Support McCain’s bill S.3081 That Calls For—Indefinite Detention of U.S. Citizens On Mere Suspicion?

On March 4, 2010, Sen. John McCain introduced S.3081, The “Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010.”

Sen. McCain’s S.3081 would eliminate several Constitutional protections allowing Government to arbitrarily pick up Americans on mere suspicion—with no probable cause. Your political opinions and statements made against U.S. Government could be used by Authorities to deem you a “hostile” “Enemy Belligerent” to cause your arrest and indefinite detention. S.3081 is so broadly written innocent anti-war protesters and Tea Party Groups might be arrested and detained just for attending demonstrations; Government can charge that attending demonstrations “materially supported hostilities.”

Considering how often Sarah Palin defends Free Speech, one can’t help wonder why Palin is helping McCain’s reelection to the U.S. Senate after he introduced possibly the most anti-Free Speech Bill in Modern U.S. History. Perhaps Palin or her Tea Party supporters haven’t considered McCain’s legislation might be used by a corrupt government administration to crush them. Tea Parties might question Palin whether she supports Sen. McCain’s bill the “Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010.” (S.3081)

Under S.3081, an “individual” need only be Suspected by Government of “suspicious activity” or “supporting hostilities” to be dragged off and held indefinitely in Military Custody. Government will have the power to detain and interrogate any individual without probable cause. Government need only allege an individual kept in detention, is an Unprivileged Enemy Belligerent suspected of; having engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners; or has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners. How could one prove to Government they did not purposely do something? “Materially Supporting Hostilities” against the United States could include any person or group that spoke out or demonstrated disapproval against an agency of U.S. Government. It is foreseeable many Americans might go underground to Resist Government Tyranny. Definition for Unprivileged Enemy Belligerent: (Anyone Subject to a Military Commission)

At least under the Patriot Act, law enforcement generally needed probable cause to detain a person indefinitely. Passage of S.3081 will permit government to use “mere suspicion” to curtail an individual’s Constitutional Protections against unlawful arrest, detention and interrogation without benefit of legal counsel and trial. According to S.3081 Government is not required to provide detained individuals U.S. Miranda Warnings or even an attorney.

S.3081 if passed will frighten Americans from speaking out. S.3081 is so broadly written, it appears any “individual” who writes on the Internet or verbally express an opinion against or an entity of U.S. Government or its coalition partners might be detained on the basis he or she is an “unprivileged enemy belligerent”, “supporting hostilities against U.S. Government.”

How might Americans respond should Government use this bill to take away their loved ones, family members and friends on mere suspicion? It is foreseeable McCain’s bill will drive lawful political activists underground, perhaps creating the domestic terrorists McCain said we needed to be protected from.

McCain’s bill mentions “non-violent acts” supporting terrorism in the U.S. and or emanating from America against a Coalition Partner. Non-violent terrorist acts” are covered in the Patriot Act to prosecute Persons that support “coercion to influence a government or intimidation to affect a civilian population.” However, U.S. activists and individuals under S.3081 would be much more vulnerable to prosecution, if (charged with suspicion) of “intentionally providing support to an Act of Terrorism”, for example American activists can’t control what other activists might do illegally—they network with domestically and overseas. Under the Patriot Act, law enforcement generally needs probable cause to detain or prosecute someone. But under S.3081, law enforcement and the military can too easily use (hearsay or informants) to allege “suspicious activity” to detain an individual. It is problematic under S.3081 that detained individuals in the U.S. not involved in terrorism or hostile activities, not given Miranda Warnings or allowed legal counsel will be prosecuted for ordinary crimes because of their alleged admissions while in military custody.

Notably, McCain’s S.3081 mandates (merging) Federal, State and Local Police and subsequently the U.S. Military to detain and hold Individuals in the U.S., even without probable cause. Interestingly a Rand Report prepared for the Army, recently made public, appears to suggest that U.S. Government develop a Local, State and Federal U.S. “National Police Stabilization Force merging State law enforcement with the Feds. What could happen to State Rights and what Laws and Jurisdiction would be used to prosecute state Citizens arrested by a National Police Stabilization Force? A National Police Force could potentially be sent by the President into any State with the approval of its governor, against the wishes of its Citizens? To clarify the Rand Corporation report visit:…

Historically it is foreseeable under S.3081 that “erroneous informant information” could be used to detain innocent Individuals. Other countries have used lying informants to imprison; even execute political opposition.

Under S.3081 government may use an individual’s phone call and email information to allege without probable cause “suspicious or hostile activity against a U.S. civilian population or the United States to detain Americans.”

(Make Your Own Determination If The Analysis Herein Is Correct) See McCain’s 12-page Senate bill S.3081 at:

FYI: below is enclosed a copy of “Hitler’s Discriminatory Decrees signed February 28, 1933.” Although the Nazi Decrees are written differently than S.3081, the McCain bill could bring America to the same place crushing free speech and personal liberty. Note how the Nazi Government in Section (1) and (4), similar to U.S. S.3081, suspend personal liberty— shutdown Free Speech to intimidate Citizens speaking out against Government:

See Section 1
“Sections 114, 115, 117, 118, 123, 124, and 153 of the Constitution of the German Reich are suspended until further notice. Thus, restrictions on personal liberty, on the right of free expression of opinion, including freedom of the press, on the right of assembly and the right of association, and violations of the privacy of postal, telegraphic, and telephonic communications, and warrants for house-searches, orders for confiscations as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed.”

Similar to McCain’s S. 3081, but using different wording the Nazi Government in Section (4) see below, suspended Constitutional rights, ordered the arrest of Citizens for any ACT that might incite or provoke disobedience against state authorities. McCain’s S.3081 instead mentions detaining and prosecuting Individuals for “supporting hostilities” against U.S. Government. S.3081 is so broadly written any person or group attending a protest could be arrested without provable cause and detained if government charged a protest-supported hostilities.

See Section 4
Whoever provokes, or appeals for or incites to the disobedience of the orders given out by the supreme state authorities or the authorities subject to then for the execution of this decree, or the orders given by the Reich Government according to Section 2, is punishable—insofar as the deed, is not covered by the decree with more severe punishment and with imprisonment of not less that one month, or with a fine from 150 up to 15,000 Reichsmarks.

Note: Based on translations by State Department, National Socialism, 1942 PP. 215-17, and Pollak, J.K., and Heneman, H.J., The Hitler Decrees, (1934), pp. 10-11.7

In virtue of Section 48 (2) of the German Constitution, the following is decreed as a defensive measure against Communist acts of Violence, endangering the state:

Section 1
Sections 114, 115, 117, 118, 123, 124, and 153 of the Constitution of the German Reich are suspended until further notice. Thus, restrictions on personal liberty, on the right of free expression of opinion, including freedom of the press, on the right of assembly and the right of association, and violations of the privacy of postal, telegraphic, and telephonic communications, and warrants for house-searches, orders for confiscations as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed.

Section 2
If in a state the measures necessary for the restoration of public security and order are not taken, the Reich Government may temporarily take over the powers of the highest state authority.

Section 4
Whoever provokes, or appeals for or incites to the disobedience of the orders given out by the supreme state authorities or the authorities subject to then for the execution of this decree, or the orders given by the Reich Government according to Section 2, is punishable—insofar as the deed, is not covered by the decree with more severe punishment and with imprisonment of not less that one month, or with a fine from 150 up to 15,000 Reichsmarks.

Who ever endangers human life by violating Section 1, is to be punished by sentence to a penitentiary, under mitigating circumstances with imprisonment of not less than six months and, when violation causes the death of a person, with death, under mitigating circumstances with a penitentiary sentence of not less that two years. In addition the sentence my include confiscation of property.

Whoever provokes an inciter to or act contrary to public welfare is to be punished with a penitentiary sentence, under mitigating circumstances, with imprisonment of not less than three months.

Meg Whitman…running for California Governor’s seat…where is your money and how much do you have?

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

It’s kind of ridiculous for a politician to run for office on her business background and assert a tax policy while refusing to tell the voters how much she has made and very importantly, where she has made it. Whitman is stashing millions in off-shore tax havens. The truth is, we don’t know if she’s paying taxes on it because she won’t release the records.  Story is located here

95% of Americans say, “Thanks for the tax break President Obama!!”

Friday, April 16th, 2010

“Obama passed 25 separate tax cuts,” Sheryl Stein, founding member of “The Other 95%” said in a statement announcing the group’s plans, “including $300 billion in middle class tax cuts — one of the largest in history – as part of the stimulus package. Unlike President Bush’s 2001 tax cuts, which went to the wealthiest 2.2%, President Obama’s tax cuts overwhelmingly benefit working and middle class families — in fact, 95% of all Americans.”  Video is located here

Teabagger contract with America could see disaster ahead courtesy the baggers

Friday, April 16th, 2010

For starters, the Bush tax cuts the Tea Party wants to make permanent (10) are largely responsible for the expanding deficits in this decade and the next. As the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) detailed, the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 accounted for almost half of the mushrooming deficits during his tenure. And as another recent CBPP analysis revealed, over the next 10 years, the Bush tax cuts will contribute more to the U.S. budget deficit than the Obama stimulus, the TARP program, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and revenue lost to the recession – combined. (Ending the so-called “death tax,” which impacts only 1 in 500 estates, will drain billions more per year from the U.S. Treasury.) An AP chart last fall of data from the Congress Budget Office show the explosion of federal debt that will ensue if the Tea Baggers and their Republicans get their way:   Story is located here

Remove Reaganomics and FIX much of America’s woes

Friday, April 16th, 2010

There is a reason why the economy is upside down today and the reason is Reaganomics. There is more than enough money out there to bring America back to greatness it is just that the money has taken a turn in a direction to hurt America as opposed to helping America. Thom Hartmann explains how the direction of the economy can be changed back to helping Americans rather easily.  Video is located here.

Money in politics is the reason politicans do not listen to us.

Friday, April 16th, 2010

If you look at this site and see the amount of money that is projected to be spent in the campaign of 2010 you will understand easily that when someone donates to a campaign they expect something back.  When I as an individual donate to a political campaign I hope in the grand scheme of things that the legislation and laws that the politican passes will be favoring my area or upholding my hopes for the direction of the nation/state/city.  When people with big money make big money donations to an elected official how can they not expect big returns and often times a specific action?  This defies logic that we allow so much money to be a part of our elections.

The result is politicians making a ton of money and laws made that favor corporations as opposed to people.

If elections were publicly financed then the politicians would be more responsive to us than the corporations.

The Supreme Court recently ruled that corporations are essentially people and deserve free speech.  Since a corporation cannot talk it was ruled that their free speech vehicle was money in campaigns.

If money is free speech how on Earth will people ever win?  They won’t…and we aren’t.

Sarah Palin and her Death Panels was a flat out lie as she knew better from just a year before

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Death Panel- A horrible way the US Government will control how and when and why you die.  Obama himself will come into your bedroom…push away your stuffed animals…give a treat to your dog sleeping on the doggie bed in the corner as you are strangled in the night by Obama himself.  That is what US Representative Michele Bachmann says.

ABC News outlines when this lie started and here is the reason why it started.

Living Will- A way for you to meet with your lawyer, friends and family and plan your wishes as your illness seems to be terminal and hopefully prior to that point as you are mentally cogent to make such decisions.  Official definitions here.  Here is another discussion about Sarah being for it prior to being against it…so Sarah Palin was for people making Living Wills and making their decisions known prior to their becoming sick.  Good idea Sarah!!!!

The recent healthcare reform bill had a Living Will element.  Despite the ridiculousness of the Death Panel claim  Sarah Palin continued to claim there were Death Panels lurking in healthcare reform legislation and apparently Obama himself would sneak into your bedroom window and strangle you.  So as we backup 2 years from now to 2008 we had Sarah Palin urging Alaskans to look into plans while they are healthy…for later in life when those final decisions need to be made.  So Sarah Palin in 2008 rationally told the people of Alaska to plan for the future and called it Healthcare Decisions days.

Actually the State of Alaska had the proclamation on their official website and then it was gone…dunno why but here is a discussion about the deletion.

Then in 2009 and 2010 the same things that Sarah Palin signed as a way for people to plan for their future with family and friends were part of Obama’s healthcare plan.  After a former insurance representative Betsey McCaughey decided the best term to use to kill the whole healthcare bill was to call them Death Panels…Sarah began calling them Death Panels…despite approving the same thing in Alaska the year before.  Many Republicans made this bald faced lie and called them Death Panels as well.

Stephen Colbert as usual boils the whole thing down to the stupidity that Death Panels deserve

Sarah said Death Panels could kill her baby with special needs

Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich are here lying about Death Panels

When you look at they have a section dedicated to Death Panels and the continuation that they are real.

Here are the Young Turks discussing Sarah’s backpedaling of Death Panels.

But of course DEATH PANELS ARE REAL AND THEY HAVE BEEN OPERATING FOR DECADES IN AMERICA.  They are called Private Insurance Companies. Keith Olbermann explains the REAL Death Panels here.

Those opposing healthcare reform were simply FOR those Death Panels….so those complaining about Death Panels…want them to be real….and they are…but not BEACAUSE of Obama but they were happening way BEFORE Obama.

Exposing Glenn Beck as a Dangerous Fraud, Part 2

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

“This is Orson Welles, ladies and gentlemen, out of character to assure you that The War of The Worlds has no further significance than as the holiday offering it was intended to be. The Mercury Theatre’s own radio version of dressing up in a sheet and jumping out of a bush and saying Boo! …So goodbye everybody, and remember please, for the next day or so, the terrible lesson you learned tonight. That grinning, glowing, globular invader of your living room is an inhabitant of the pumpkin patch, and if your doorbell rings and nobody’s there, that was no Martian… it’s Halloween.”

Orson Welles, one of Glenn Beck’s broadcasting heroes. In fact, the name of Beck’s production company, Mercury Radio Arts (officially known as Glenn Beck, Inc.), is based on Welles’ CBS radio show — the radio show that famously aired one of broadcasting’s most legendary hoaxes: The War of the Worlds.

Unlike the various Glenn Beck shows and publications, the Mercury performance of the H.G. Welles classic featured a disclaimer at the end (quoted above), formally noting the fictitious nature of the broadcast. Imagine if, unlike Beck, Welles had never broadcast a monologue postscript revealing that what had unfolded on the radio was purely theater. It’s not a stretch to suggest that the ensuing hysteria during and after the show would’ve been far greater.  Story is located here.

The Super-Rich Want You to Hate Taxes So They Can Keep Your Money

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

When it comes to the American economy, there is one fundamental lie and one fundamental truth and it is up to you which you choose to believe. Tax Day is really a chance to ask: “Which side am I on?”

The lie is that if the maximum freedom and, thus, maximum benefits are given to the super-rich elites, ultimately everyone will win because the super-rich will create companies and create jobs and buy things and that will benefit the rest of us. It’s been called various things over various times — Reaganomics, trickle down economics, free market capitalism. But mostly it’s just been called bullshit.

The average five-year-old could tell you the truth — that if you want to create the most amount of opportunity and prosperity for the most amount of people, it makes much more sense to spread opportunity and prosperity from the get-go rather than give it all to the top and pray it will spread. Bullshit economists — who are mostly from elite backgrounds, educated in elite institutions, and invested in preserving the elite status quo — have been trying for decades to persuade us to believe their lie rather than the common sense truth. Their lie led our economy right into the toilet, but the bullshit economists and their Wall Street pals are still scrambling to convince us that they’re the solution, not the problem.  Story is located here

Teabaggers allow Socialism to foot bill for their gatherings

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

As Michele Bachmann riled a group of feisty Tea Partiers to rail against taxes and government spending, taxpayers were quietly forced to pick up a $13,600 tab for their festivities.

New expense reports from last November’s Tea Party gathering in Washington, D.C. reveal that the rally comprising thousands of protesters was funded by official congressional money, according to the the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

For the sound, staging and equipment, Bachmann (R-MN) was financially assisted by taxpayer-funded allowances from Reps. Todd Akin (R-MO), Tom Price (R-GA), and Steve King (R-IA).  Story is located here

Sarah Palin learns the hard way that beyond “the base” she doesn’t have much

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

But she is going to work the 23% base and make a ton of money from them.  The ad buyers looking at the Sarah Palin show on Discovery Channel were unimpressed.  It will be lack of marketing potential that will be her death-knell beyond FOX News viewers…and she isn’t doing so hot on FOX News either.  Story on how ad buyers at Discovery Channel laughed after seeing the promotional video for Palin’s show is located here

Teabaggers try to use story of broken healthcare system to prove the healthcare system does not need to be fixed

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

This woman was on Madicaid.  Her income increased beyond the limits of the system so she was kicked out of the system despite her kid being in the middle of cancer treatment.  This is EXACTLY why we needed the change that we recently had…but Teabaggers are trying to sell it as the future.  This case is actually a case of the PAST.  This would not have happened if we had the Hillarycare as Clinton tried to pass in the 90s but we have it today because the Republicans said NO back then.  Obama’s healthcare plan will take care of this woman despite the fact that Republicans all voted against his plan.

This problem proves we needed the healthcare reform we saw and we need more…but Republicans would not allow it…so we got the bare minimum and they will complain of its shortcomings…as they voted against more reform.  Story and very interesting comments are located here

Rush Limbaugh questions why unions did not protect miners that died in West Virginia

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Last Friday, Rush Limbaugh asked why a coal miner union didn’t protect the 29 miners who were killed when Massey Energy’s Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, WV, exploded under unsafe conditions:

Was there no union responsibility for improving mine safety? Where was the union here? Where was the union? The union is generally holding these companies up demanding all kinds of safety. Why were these miners continuing to work in what apparently was an unsafe atmosphere?

SO Rush is encouraging unionizing the mines in that he is asking where the unions were in protecting the miners when the truth is that the miners were stopped from unionizing. Therefore you had miners that didn’t even know that the mine was cited for safety problems hundreds and thousands of times.  Story and audio are located here
