DePue Illinois is in the middle of a massive toxic pile of poison

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

The toxic industry came and went and what is left is a poisoned city.  DePue Illinois is just up the river from where I grew up and the poison in the river flowed right to my little town.  Oh by the way the corporation responsible for the poison is Exxon and they paid $0 in Federal Income Tax on $45Billion in profits last year.  I guess they can’t be bothered with DePue.  Story and video are here

The six most intense storms in history to affect the Great Lakes
According to the Chicago branch of the National Weather Service and Christopher C. Burt, our Weather Records blogger, the following are the six lowest pressures measured in the U.S. Great Lakes region:

The best sign at the Colbert/Stewart rally in DC

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Here is the best sign I saw at the Rally to Restore Sanity: My Comedy Channel–Fox News. My News Channel–Comedy Central. It is estimated that 215,000 attended the rally. It is obviously two small a sample to mean anything, but in watching the coverage on C-Span briefly after the event, there were a couple of calls from people who identified themselves as former Republicans who say they now plan to vote Democratic.  Story and picture are located here

A few very easy questions for Republicans

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

  1. What was the average monthly private sector job growth in 2008, the final year of the Bush presidency, and what has it been so far in 2010?
  2. What was the Federal deficit for the last fiscal year of the Bush presidency, and what was it for the first full fiscal year of the Obama presidency?
  3. What was the stock market at on the last day of the Bush presidency? What is it at today?
  4. Which party’s candidate for speaker will campaign this weekend with a Nazi reenactor who dressed up in a SS uniform?

  1. In 2008, we lost an average of 317,250 private sector jobs per month. In 2010, we have gained an average of 95,888 private sector jobs per month. (Source) That’s a difference of nearly five million jobs between Bush’s last year in office and President Obama’s second year.
  2. In FY2009, which began on September 1, 2008 and represents the Bush Administration’s final budget, the budget deficit was $1.416 trillion. In FY2010, the first budget of the Obama Administration, the budget deficit was $1.291 trillion, a decline of $125 billion. (Source) Yes, that means President Obama has cut the deficit — there’s a long way to go, but we’re in better shape now than we were under Bush and the GOP.
  3. On Bush’s final day in office, the Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 closed at 7,949, 1,440, and 805, respectively. Today, as of 10:15AM Pacific, they are at 11,108, 2,512, and 1,183. That means since President Obama took office, the Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 have increased 40%, 74%, and 47%, respectively.
  4. The Republican Party, whose candidate for speaker, John Boehner, will campaign with Nazi re-enactor Rich Iott this weekend. If you need an explanation why this is offensive, you are a lost cause.

The moral of the story is this: if you vote Republican, I hope you enjoy Election Day — because you’re not going to like what comes next.  Story is located here

Another view of America’s health care delivery system

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Death Panels exits….they exist in order to provide profit to the investors and Directors of our sham of a health care delivery system.  It makes me want to puke when I see people like us Katharine who do not appreciate how close they are to be where the following people are.  Normal people are a few paychecks from being out of their current home….their car taken away….or their health care being taken away.  America…especially Republicans wrap themselves in the flag and GOD…and they allow people to die for the sake of profit.  Below are people that are dying for the sake of profit.  More money into the pockets of multimillionaires….buying them boats and homes.  This is not right.  This is morally wrong.  The following handful of videos are the tip of the iceberg.

Here is a Death Panel deciding a 6 year old should die right before your very eyes.  This is FREEDOM according to Republicans who voted against the health care reform we saw a few months back.  Look at FREEDOM…LIBERTY…the Constitutional way to deal with health care.  Then go throw up.

Christian Prolifers? Prolifers?  OH They would be for health care reform no?  NO!  They are against health care reform which would save lives

And considering illegal aliens are not humans they don’t need health care according to the Prolife movement.  So it is good to know that anyone with brown skin can be looked at as less than human and they are expendable and their lives don’t count.  The Teaparty Republicans don’t want to provide them with health care which can save their life so apparently PROLIFE means only some lives and the baby denied health care above means once you are squirted out the uterus you are on your own.  COME ON INFANT PULL YOURSELF UP BY YOUR BOOTSTRAPS as you squirm there on the floor suffering from something curable.  Prolife….Godly….Christian….American.  They are none of the above.

IF you are not appalled and sick that our current health care system allows this simply for the sake of profit you are not human.  This is the plan Republicans WANT.  This is FREEDOM to them.  The people that are sick are FREE!!!  They have LIBERTY!!!  This is the CONSTITUTIONALLY APPROVED WAY TO PROVIDE HEALTH CARE they say.  Medicare is unconstitutional….Social Security is unconstitutional….unemployment is unconstitutional.  They say DONATIONS and BEGGING for care is the way to go if you cannot afford health care.  They say the government should not provide these things.  Well the Free Market is not providing it….people are dying…then who should provide this?  Should the people above be allowed to die?  Should they be allowed to slip through the cracks?  Republicans say yes.  Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

The uglyness of the people opposed to health care reform is staggering.  The lack of empathy and caring for others is appalling.

now onto that video you sent me…..

hahah oh my DOG look at that video!!!!!!!  hahahaahahha
Obama is gonna jump out from under my bed and slit my throat and eat my heart in front of my very eyes AS LIBBY WATCHES IN HORROR!!!!!  hahahahah

Where are the DEATH PANELS and where do I send a resume to get a job there?
Obama was accused of wanting mass genocide of the sick, poor and elderly….where is this happening exactly?  I would love to see the statistics on such mass extinction of huge populations of our nation.  Anyone…anyone….Beuller…Beuller….Beuller.  <<crickets>>  Uh huh.

The FOR PROFIT healthcare industry is a profit generating concept as opposed to a healthcare delivery system.  Our FOR PROFIT HMOs and other corporations DO NOT PROVIDE HEALTH CARE…THEY PROVIDE PROFIT.  If they could sell widgets and Popsicles and make more money they would dump health care.  When you have profit as part of the formula in a person receiving medical care that profit has to go up as that is what stockholders demand.  In order for profit to go up either costs and expenses are cut and/or premiums go up.  Well the result of our present system is that profits have SKYROCKETED

ANDDD premiums has skyrocketed

So I ask you if the profit RETURNED TO SHAREHOLDER is in the billions…what else could that money have been applied to? PERHAPS CARING FOR SICK PEOPLE?  This is the one thing that cannot be gotten around…that your premiums pay for boats and cars and houses for these investors instead of health care which is being purchased.  This is morally wrong at every level.  Buying a car, phone, designer sunglasses with huge built in profits…WHO CARES but when you do the same with health care you are dealing with life and death.  Profits are increased by increasing premiums and/or cutting expenses and denying care….PERIOD.  This defines our helathcare system as NOT BEING a health care delivery system but rather a profit generating system.

With it being understood that the health care system in America is a weak front for providing profits…who would oppose health care reform?,-stay-calm-for-this

and who is Rick Scott?
He is a Republican running for Governor of Florida

So we are dealing with millionaires and billionaires trying to keep their cash cows providing them with obscene paychecks…as YOUR PREMIUMS buy them boats and houses and you continually hear of further denials of health care.  We do NOT have a health care system we have a profit delivery system using health care as a guise….almost a pyramid scheme really in that people receive and are denied care arbitrarily at times.  Meanwhile profits rise and the CEOs get paid more and more.

Concerning that email you sent me….here is a wonderful quote about that email from the Kaiser Family Foundation pulled from this website
Jennifer Tolbert, an independent health care analyst at the Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonpartisan foundation that studies health care reform. Tolbert has read and analyzed all the major health proposals, including those of the Republicans, and the foundation provides point-by-point analyses of the plans on its Web site.

We’re hardened, battle-scarred fact-checkers, so false claims in e-mails don’t really surprise us anymore. But we sent Tolbert a copy of the latest from our in-box, and she was none too pleased.

“It’s awful,” she said. “It’s flat-out, blatant lies. It’s unbelievable to me how they can claim to reference the legislation and then make claims that are blatantly false.”

As is expected it is a big pile of lies.

Debunking of the email that the video was pulled from

Here are some things which are TRUE

So when it comes down to it….you are with 1 of 2 camps in the health care reform world….
either you are with these persons

or these people

ObamaCare is not perfect….we SHOULD have gone to a Medicare for all with cost negotiations for EVERYTHING.  PERIOD…DONE.  Profits account for 10-30% of your premium check so just remember that 10-30% of your bill goes to a boat company for a new yacht or a 6th mansion for a CEO and when you really get sick you can flip a coin and hope to get treatment.  You can always hope for charity….or place an ad for a bake sale in the paper.

This is the Republican approved Plan.  Obama just took a good swing at changing this for the better for average people….and you are an average person.

God would say what about this Republican plan?  God would damn this plan.  God would not be happy with America being so un Godly…un we wrap ourself in God and Jesus and watch people die for the sake of profits.  People over profits should be on coins instead of In God We Trust

Go throw up again.

The Power of Nightmares

Friday, October 29th, 2010

One of the central questions the documentary poses is, Could it be that the image of a well-organized international terrorist conspiracy is just a myth? The impressive documentary does not say that there are no terrorist threats at all. It just doubts whether it is as well-organized, and world threatening as some politicians and fanatic leaders want us to believe.

Curtis illustrates his point by comparing the rise of Neoconservatism in America and the Islamic Fundamentalism in the Middle East. He argues that both are closely related, and that both parties profit from misconceptions, and exaggerated, illusory threats.

To date the series of documentaries was never shown on American TV. Curtis tried to get it on American TV, but he was told by a head of the leading networks that there was no way they could show it. ‘We would get slaughtered if we put this out,was the response of the man in charge of one of the leading TV networks.

The three documentaries first aired on BBC TWO in the autumn of 2004. An updated version was broadcast in late January, 2005. The series been shown in several other countries and is now available as a free download.  Story is located here

6 Domestic Terrorists egged on by FOX News

Friday, October 29th, 2010

It was a quixotic quest, but not an unreasonable one given the way Fox — and Glenn Beck in particular — seem to be inspiring conservatives to engage in armed civil war with their liberal neighbors. Perhaps advertisers don’t know quite how extreme Fox and Beck have become: The recent incident in which a Kentucky county campaign coordinator for Senate candidate Ron Paul stomped on the head of a female protester is not an isolated example. Here are six actual terrorists inspired by Fox News. They have killed six Americans and wounded six others between them. (Seven, if you count the woman who took a sneaker to the skull from Paul’s man):

Additions to the debt in 2009 are pointed right at Bush

Friday, October 29th, 2010

When President Bush’s first budget was passed in 2001, the debt was: $5,807,463,412,200.06.

When President Bush’s last budget ended, the debt in 2009 was: $11,909,829,003,511.75.

About $220 billion of the 2009 deficit belonged to President Obama, so to be fair, we will take it out to make the number $11,689,829,003,511.75.

We are not counting the 2001 tax cuts that took effect in 2001 and applied to the Clinton budget because we don’t have a good value for that. So President Bush gets a favorable accounting for his debt evaluation.

Thus, President Bush’s credit/blame for the debt over 8 years is valued at $5,882,365,591,311.69 or an increase of 101.28% over what he inherited.

Tea Party evangelists claim the Constitution as their sacred text. Why that’s wrong.

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

The Tea Partiers belong to a different tradition—a tradition of divisive fundamentalism. Like other fundamentalists, they seek refuge from the complexity and confusion of modern life in the comforting embrace of an authoritarian scripture and the imagined past it supposedly represents. Like other fundamentalists, they see in their good book only what they want to see: confirmation of their preexisting beliefs. Like other fundamentalists, they don’t sweat the details, and they ignore all ambiguities. And like other fundamentalists, they make enemies or evildoers of those who disagree with their doctrine. In the 1930s, the American Liberty League opposed FDR’s New Deal by flogging its version of the Constitution with what historian Frederick Rudolph once described as “a worshipful intensity.” In the 1960s, the John Birch Society imagined a vast communist conspiracy in similar terms. In 1992 conservative activists formed what came to be known as the Constitution Party—Sharron Angle was once a member—in order to “restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations and to limit the federal government to its Constitutional boundaries.” Today, Angle asserts that “separation of church and state is an unconstitutional doctrine,” and Palin claims that “the Constitution…essentially acknowledg[es] that our unalienable rights…come from God.” The point is always the same: to suggest that the Constitution, like the Bible, decrees what’s right and wrong (rather than what’s legal and illegal), and to insist that only the fundamentalists and their ilk can access its truths. We are moral, you are not; we represent America, you do not. Theirs is the rallying cry of culture war.  Story is located here

Make WalMart pants…make 17 cents per hour

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

Ever wonder how Walmart can afford to sell a pair of jeans for eight bucks? It’s because workers at the factory in Bangladesh where the jeans are made earn a measly one-and-a-half cents for each pair they sew. To make matters worse, Walmart has been lobbying against a government-supported wage increase, which would bump the workers up to 35 cents an hour. It’s time Walmart stopped exploiting the workers who make the clothes they sell.  Story is located here

The political Know-Nothing Party from the 1840s and 1850s is exactly like the Teabaggers of today

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

The Know-Nothing movement was a nativist American political movement of the 1840s and 1850s. It was empowered by popular fears that the country was being overwhelmed by German and Irish Catholic immigrants, who were often regarded as hostile to Anglo-Saxon Protestant values and controlled by the pope in Rome. Mainly active from 1854 to 1856, it strove to curb immigration and naturalization, though its efforts met with little success. Membership was limited to Protestant males of British lineage over the age of twenty-one. There were few prominent leaders, and the largely middle-class and entirely Protestant membership fragmented over the issue of slavery.

The movement originated in New York in 1843 as the American Republican Party. It spread to other states as the Native American Party and became a national party in 1845. In 1855 it renamed itself the American Party.[1] The origin of the “Know Nothing” term was in the semi-secret organization of the party. When a member was asked about its activities, he was supposed to reply, “I know nothing.”[2]

Scary New Wage Data or Reaganomics/Bushonomics is moving all of the money to the top of the food chain

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

And you are not at the top of the food chain.

* 1/34 of all workers in 2008 had $0 income in 2009

Total wages, median wages, and average wages all declined, but at the very top, salaries grew more than fivefold.

The number of Americans making $50 million or more, the top income category in the data, fell from 131 in 2008 to 74 last year. But that’s only part of the story.

The average wage in this top category increased from $91.2 million in 2008 to an astonishing $518.8 million in 2009. That’s nearly $10 million in weekly pay!

You read that right. In the Great Recession year of 2009 (officially just the first half of the year), the average pay of the very highest-income Americans was more than five times their average wages and bonuses in 2008. And even though their numbers shrank by 43 percent, this group’s total compensation was 3.2 times larger in 2009 than in 2008, accounting for 0.6 percent of all pay. These 74 people made as much as the 19 million lowest-paid people in America, who constitute one in every eight workers.

Glenn Beck – Giving legitimacy to lunatic fringe..lunatic enabler

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

“I would’ve never started watching Fox News if it wasn’t for the fact that Beck was on there,” says this friend, Byron Williams. “And it was the things he did, it was the things he exposed, that blew my mind.”

“I do enjoy Glenn Beck,” Williams also says, “and the reason why I enjoy that is because… no other channel will speak about the same things that he’s talking about, and if you go and investigate those things you’ll find out that they’re true.”

Unfortunately for Beck, this satisfied viewer currently resides at the Santa Rita Jail near Oakland and stands accused of a freeway shootout with police. Williams pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempted murder of a police officer. But according to court documents, he said he had been on a mission to kill people at the liberal Tides Foundation, which happens to be a favorite Beck target.  Story is located here

Elections coming up and the stories of hacking election machines and servers continue to make electronic elections just unsafe at any speed.

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

It is now clear that Halderman and his team were able to completely subvert the entire DC Internet voting system remotely, gaining complete control over it and substituting fake votes of their choice for the votes that were actually cast by the test voters. What is worse, they did so without the officials even noticing for several days.

Let there be no mistake about it: this is a major achievement, and supports in every detail the warnings that security community have been giving about Internet voting for over a decade now. After this there can be no doubt that the burden of proof in the argument over the security of Internet voting systems has definitely shifted to those who claim that the systems can be made secure.  See just how easy it is for hackers to break into servers hosting election results here.

Beck is no prophet…he is profiting off the shtick and hard work of others from years ago.  Coupled with Beck’s quotes of not caring about the political structure at all and his self described beliefs which shift with the wind…show that his brand of nuts is not original.  Story is located here.

Inconvenient Facts That The Chamber Hasn’t Refuted

The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent reports that the Chamber of Commerce has issued yet another response to our story – at least the fifth different statement it has offered since we first reported yesterday morning on their foreign sources of funding. The Chamber’s latest effort is to engage in personal name-calling, referring to ThinkProgress as “a George Soros-funded, anti-business blog” that is “deceitful.” This smoke-and-mirrors response serves to obfuscate the basic facts which ThinkProgress revealed:

1) The Chamber acknowledges that it receives foreign sources of funding.
2) The foreign funds go directly into the Chamber’s general 501(c)(6) entity.
3) At least $300,000 has been channeled from foreign companies in India and Bahrain to the account.
4) The foreign sources include foreign state-owned companies, including the State Bank of India and the Bahrain Petroleum Company.
5) The Chamber’s 501(c)(6) entity is used to launch an unprecedented $75 million partisan attack ad campaign against Democrats.

Either the people own the airwaves or the corporations own the airwaves.

The real documentary of Pirate Radio in America is linked here.  The concept is not that you play music on the radio and have a thrill doing it but the fact of WHO owns those airwaves.  Pirate Radio tries to explain that the corporatization of the airwaves was the removal of the people’s rights owning the air.  Either the people own the airwaves or the corporations do and it seems corporations were handed the airwaves on a silver platter.  How are they doing?  HA!

Biden: “If I Hear One More Republican Tell Me About Balancing the Budget, I Am Going to Strangle Them”

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

The vice president said that “the people of Minnesota, the people of the United States, were absolutely devastated by the eight years of neglect, eight years of a policy that masqueraded as a vision, which was little more than a Ponzi scheme, that Wall Street was conducting. For eight years, all that happened was we piled up debt, we generated losses for the middle class, and the end result was, when we came into office, we inherited, before I a chance to turn on the computer in the office — Fritz, your old office – we were handed a bill for $1.3 trillion, a projected deficit of $8 trillion for the next 10 years, if we did nothing.”

The vice president said “if I hear one more Republican tell me about balancing the budget, I am going to strangle them. To the press: that’s a figure of speech.”

The Republicans’ new “Pledge to America,” he said, will increase the debt by $1 trillion.

“These guys have absolutely no credibility, no credibility on debt,” he said. “Folks, look, we’ve seen this movie before. We’ve seen this movie. We know how it ends”

The reality of Teaparty concepts in action-

Monday, October 4th, 2010

The event was dubbed “pay for spray” by Keith Olbermann. It’s a chilling vision of what could play out in a third world America, where paying taxes isn’t enough to cover basic services. Fire protection, it turns out, is a privilege in some communities. On Monday’s show, Olbermann railed against the larger implications the incident, calling it “a look now into the America envisioned by the tea party … just a preview of what would come in a kind of a la carte government.”

Story and video are located here.

As ThinkProgress has noted, there are currently two competing visions of governance in the United States. One, the conservative vision, believes in the on-your-own society, and informs a policy agenda that primarily serves the well off and privileged sectors of the country. The other vision, the progressive one, believes in an American Dream that works for all people, regardless of their racial, religious, or economic background.

The conservative vision was on full display last week in Obion County, Tennessee.

Can’t help but think of Ray Bradbury’s, “Fahrenheit 451.” This is simplistic, but basically, the society in this book are anti-intellectual, and hedonistic, there is lawlessness, and the fireman are sadistic. People are not allowed to read banned and illegal books. The fireman’s role is to burn the homes of these people, along with their books. The books have been outlawed by the government, fearing an independent and thinking public. Anyone caught reading these illegal books are sent to a mental hospital.

For those who have read this classic, it is eerily weird, as in the story, the firemen for fun, set out a robotic dog, enjoying watching him kill defenseless animals. The fact that they let the home burn is despicable and no words can describe this barbaric act. But, the nonchalance they displayed letting defenseless animals, (3 dogs and a cat), perish in a firey death, makes you wonder about them.

This world in Bradbury’s book is fiction, but this real event is troubling, to say the least.

Beck and the fringe Conspiracy Theories he pushes

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Here is a good look at Beck and the fringe Conspiracy Theories he pushes

I have seen the End of the World Seed ads.  The ads are like Beck…a parody of themselves and laughing at the viewers the whole time.  There was a wonderful quote by Karl Rove who would regularly refer to the Religious right who would meet with Bush and other Bush Administration leaders.  Rove referred to them as “THE NUTS”.

This is a running theme to right-wing politics…laughing at the voters while the leaders of the Party laugh all the way to the bank.
