Liberals love America. Conservatives love America.

Friday, December 31st, 2010

As Al Franken noted, liberals love America like adults love their parents, while conservatives love America like a four year-old loves his parents. Liberals love America, but can emotionally and intellectually recognize that America sometimes takes an errant path and try to get back on course. This is the same way an adult child loves a parent. Conservatives, on the other hand, think everything America does is right, just as a young child thinks everything Mommy does is right even if Mommy is acting unwisely. And a four year-old will punch you in the nose if you ever say anything bad about Mommy.

George W Bush did not want Americans to conserve energy at all

Friday, December 31st, 2010

On May 7, 2001, Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer was asked “does the President believe we need to correct our lifestyles to address the energy problem?” Fleischer’s infamous response made clear energy conservation was off the table for President Bush:

“That’s a big no. The President believes that it’s an American way of life, and that it should be the goal of policy makers to protect the American way of life.”

Instead, George W. Bush promised to get biblical on OPEC.

Some Obama accomplishments for the year

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

We’ve shared with you our top 10 accomplishments of the 111th Congress—including the Recovery Act, whose passage helped to save an economy on the brink of collapse, and health insurance reform, which at long last created a means to help provide health insurance to all Americans.

These achievements are important, and what’s equally impressive is that at every step of the way, millions of grassroots supporters stood alongside the President and Democrats in Congress for an agenda of change. As the following videos show, this could not have been the most productive Congress in generations without the hard work, optimism, and sheer persistence of volunteers on the ground.

So take a step back and watch what’s been accomplished this year—and be proud of what the millions of supporters who make up Organizing for America, standing together, have done.

Teddy Roosevelt defined LIVING WAGE

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

We stand for a living wage.

Wages are subnormal if they fail to provide a living for those who devote their time and energy to industrial occupations.

The monetary equivalent of a living wage varies according to local conditions, but must include:

enough to secure the elements of a normal standard of living–

a standard high enough to make morality possible,

to provide for education and recreation,

to care for immature members of the family,

to maintain the family during periods of sickness,

and to permit of reasonable saving for old age.”

History shows us without Social Security poverty for Senior Citizens was epidemic while business made a fortune

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

This is basically where the Teabaggers want to take America back to-

That movement’s most outspoken proponent is Fox News host Glenn Beck, who doesn’t merely pine for the pre-New Deal era in general, but regularly prevails upon his audience to recognize the particular genius of some of the period’s presidents, whose ideologies of inaction he holds up as the American ideal.

Democratic President Grover Cleveland is one such hero. When Beck and guest Joseph Lehman were discussing the proper roles of welfare and charity this summer, Lehman noted that one “extreme [position] is, you’ve got welfare only as a last resort and all assistance is private.”

It wasn’t too extreme for Beck. “And this is where we actually were a hundred years ago,” Beck said, rightly thinking — or not — of people in Aunt Winnie’s situation.

“We used to be here. In fact, Grover Cleveland has this excellent statement. In 1887, President Cleveland said, ‘Though the people may support their government, the government shall not support the people,'” Lehman responded.

“That’s great,” said Beck.

While lifting up presidents like Cleveland, he wants to tear down their successors. At Beck University, he offers a course titled “Presidents You Should Hate.” Part one focuses on Woodrow Wilson, part two on Franklin Roosevelt.

Georgia lawmaker wants you to pay your taxes in silver and gold coins only. Yes…he is a teabagger

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Bobby Franklin, a Republican state legislator from Georgia, has introduced a new piece of legislation that, if passed, would force Georgians to pay their taxes in gold and silver coins.

Here’s what his Constitutional Tender Act sets forth:

Story is located here

The measure would allow the current legal tender — dollars — to be used in other financial transactions (unrelated to taxes), but only if both parties agreed to do so. The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that the Peach State collected about $1.3 billion in revenues last month. With the current rate of gold around $1,400 an ounce, that payment would amount to about 58,000 pounds of gold. If that sum was paid in silver, now worth about $30 an ounce, it would weigh in at about 2.7 million pounds.

Health Care Reform opposition is the same as the opposition to everything else Conservatives have opposed…which has been everything helping the Little Guy.

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

The federal income tax, a senator from New York said a century ago, might mean the end of “our distinctively American experiment of individual freedom.” Social Security was actually a plan “to Sovietize America,” a previous head of the Chamber of Commerce said in 1935. The minimum wage and mandated overtime pay were steps “in the direction of Communism, Bolshevism, fascism and Nazism,” the National Association of Manufacturers charged in 1938.

After Brown v. Board of Education outlawed school segregation in 1954, 101 members of Congress signed a statement calling the ruling an instance of “naked judicial power” that would sow “chaos and confusion” and diminish American greatness. A decade later, The Wall Street Journal editorial board described civil rights marchers as “asking for trouble” and civil rights laws as being on “the outer edge of constitutionality, if not more.”

This year’s health care overhaul has now joined the list.

Bankers make a ton of money….why?

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

This Bloomberg chart on financial industry profits prompts Paul Kedrosky to snark that it just goes to show that “even the worst bankers struggle to find ways to lose money when short rates are zero, the yield curve is steep, and credit is tight.”

But I think that’s mistaken. Wall Street is only full of bad bankers if you think the role of bankers is to provide efficient financial services to the rest of the economy. If you adopt the more correct attitude that the role of bankers is to make lots of money for bankers, then America has the best bankers in the world. And they’re proving it yet again.

What Have Conservatives Done For Working People? Nothing!

Friday, December 24th, 2010

This is nothing new for Republicans.  They are ideologues bent on permanently creating a small elite at the top and a permanent underclass of cheap labor to exploit. Add in the unwitting complicity of the very people permanently sliding into Serfdom on the grease of “Compassionate Conservatism” and it’s true mad genius! Tragically, the only thing “average Joe” Republicans reveals through their party affiliation is their utter stupidity and complete willingness to shoot themselves in the head on command.

MAY 21, 2011

JUDGMENT DAY is feared by the world and is the day that God will destroy the world because of the sins of mankind. The world is correct in believing that Judgment Day will come. The Bible gives us the correct and accurate information about that Day.

The Bible is the Holy Book written by Holy God who is the Creator of this beautiful world. The Holy Bible is without question a very ancient book, having been completed about 1,900 years ago. In its original languages (mostly Hebrew and Greek) it has never been changed, and each and every word in the original languages is from the mouth of God. The Bible is divided into two parts (the Old Testament and the New Testament), with each part divided into many books. Each book is divided into chapters, and each chapter is divided into verses. One of the books is named Second Timothy (2 Timothy). In Chapter 3, verse 16 (2 Timothy 3:16) of this book Holy God tells us:

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

In Jeremiah 36:1-4 God gives an example of how the Bible was written:

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which He had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book [the roll of the book is the Bible].

Holy God is far, far greater than our human minds can even begin to explain or understand. In Genesis 1:1 God declares:

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth

The Holy Bible is a book written to us so that we can know that Holy God created this beautiful universe, including all of its plants and animals, birds and sea creatures, and mankind who was created to rule this earth. Indeed there is no being of any kind that can compare with Holy God, who simply by speaking brought every kind of plant, animal, sea creature, and mankind, sun, stars, etc., into existence. For example, Holy God tells us in His Holy Bible in Genesis 1:24-26:

And God said, let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

The people of the earth, which we call mankind, were created to rule over this earth. God gave laws by which we can live as happily and wisely as possible. He warns, however, that the breaking of those laws is sin, and sin will bring punishment from God. The Bible declares in Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death….

Flying reindeer? Why?

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Flying reindeer as a result of the natural inclination of reindeer to seek out hallucinogenic mushrooms. The hallucinogen goes through the reindeer’s system and is urinated.   This yellow snow was gathered by Shamen who then created a “brew” of it.  The result is the mind altering effect of making people look smaller than they normally look.  So really the story of “flying” reindeer is that they are drugged animals…the Shamen are the men in red suits controlling the reindeer who employ ELVES who look significantly shorter than normal people.  So there is the story of Santa and Rudolph and the elf who “wants to be a dentist”.

America is a Christian nation? Not at all.

Health Care costs rising must faster than income

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Here’s more evidence that the past decade has been very, very good for the health insurance industry and more insight into why Big Insurance fought so hard to derail health care reform, especially the new law’s requirement that companies actually spend premium dollars on health care.

Family health insurance premiums more than doubled between 1999 and 2009, far outpacing the growth in workers’ earnings and overall inflation, reports the Economic Policy Institute (EPI). Those premium dollars fueled nearly annual levels of record profits along with outrageous CEO salaries and extravagant executive perks and bonuses.

While insurers raised their premiums by a staggering 131 percent, inflation for the decade was just 28 percent, while workers barely outpaced inflation with hourly earnings increasing just 38 percent. According to the EPI’s Economic Snapshot released today:

A Review of Sarah Palin’s “America by Heart”

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

One of the main themes in Sarah Palin’s “America by Heart” is contempt for higher learning.  Palin’s overt expressions of disdain for intellectual attainment and scholarly method are matched in her text by her conspicuous inability to apply intellectual rigor to the topics she addresses.  Moreover, her characterizations of American academics are divorced from documentable reality.  In Palin’s view, all academic persons in the United States are “elitist,” and “liberal,” and whatever other words she considers pejoratives and decides to throw at them.  You would never know from reading this book that 1) the scholarly method consists, (independent of any political thoughts a researcher might have) of scientific procedures to determine facts as closely as one is able to determine them, (with an understanding, which Palin does not have, that ambiguity exists) and 2) there are actually some university professors with what we might, accurately, consider conservative political views.  Her baseless demonization of intellectuals does not, however, extend to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, whom she praises to the heights of the celestial vault.  In Palin country, a highly-educated person is only elitist if they are a Democrat, and highly-educated people more often than not are to be reviled as anti-American.

The Republican Party has a new bogeyman: the public employee.

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

That’s the conclusion of a recent study by the Economic Policy Institute. Just one of many recent analyses debunking Republican charges about government workers and their unions, EPI found that “on average, state and local government workers are compensated 3.75% less than workers in the private sector.” (See the table above for details.) The report by Labor and Employment Relations Professor Jeffrey Keefe of Rutgers University revealed that public employees are undercompensated compared to similarly skilled private sector counterparts:

Keith Olbermann with an update on THIS year’s War On Christmas

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Story is located here

Olbermann said, “The very first war on Christmas was first waged by Christians. Before the American Revolution, Christmas was against the law in some of the colonies, because puritans considered Christmas a day of secular celebration and alcoholic revelry. Eventually Christmas was mixed with Teutonic Pagan elements like Santa Claus who got himself commercialized as a way to sell stuff. These days the war on Christmas is fought by the Christina right as a way to scare those sellers of stuff out of any multi-faith suggestion that Christmas is just another holiday. And therefore, Jesus Christ is just another deity and therefore Christianity just another religion, but our number one story tonight, the war on Christmas has taken a strange and disturbing turn this year.”

Glenn Beck simply lies about Wilmington Ohio

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Glenn Beck tells a massive lie about Wilmington Ohio.  He claims they are not taking any government assistance however the truth is different of course.

Mike Malloy wraps up the story and highlights the lies of Beck in this video

Politifact Ohio rates this lie by Glenn Beck rightfully as a PANTS ON FIRE lie at this site

Below is the transcript from Glenn Beck’s radio show in which he states the city is not taking any aid despite it not being true.  The original transcript is copied and pasted below or linked at this location.

GLENN: We announced on Friday that I am coming to a little town called Wilmington, Ohio. People say that this is Ground Zero for, you know, economic hardships in America of a town of 1200 or I’m sorry, 12,000. 9500 jobs were lost when DHL pulled out of town, but this town is not Ground Zero. This town is, I don’t know, a rising Phoenix? It may have been burned but it is rising again and it is doing it without government help. And it is a tremendous, tremendous town. And I want to introduce you to the town. I don’t want to I’m going to go and we’re going to put on a we’re going to do a show. And all the money will go to help out the soup kitchen there and also this old theater that we’re doing. We’re going to give some of the money to the old theater because this is an old wasn’t the theater built by the guy who originally owned the Chicago Cubs? And this was his hometown and he thought, you know, my hometown should have a state of the art facility, too. Where they can bring the traveling shows and the off Broadway shows, et cetera, et cetera. And so it’s been sitting there and it’s this beautiful, beautiful old theater. You know, but they don’t really bring the Broadway shows there anymore. And I think last year they didn’t have a heater and the town always does a salute to their town and everybody comes. And last year the furnace broke and they couldn’t afford to fix it but everybody came in a jacket. And they watched the show in a jacket. At least that’s what I’ve been told. Legend has it. It is a tremendous town that also has a 24 hour prayer cover going on. They won’t take money from the government because they are going to do it themselves. And they love their town. And they know that God is the answer and so there are 34 churches in town and they’ve decided that they are all going to pitch in and they are going to pray. And so they’ve opened this little place down right in the middle of town where somebody is always praying 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the town and for the people in the town. And blessings are coming. And I don’t want to go and necessarily help them and showcase them and say, oh, let’s all feel sorry for them. No, the exact opposite. I’d like to showcase them as, here’s a town that gets it. Here’s a town doing what needs to be done. It is in the worst conditions they are finding the best in themselves. So it’s kind of “It’s a Wonderful Life” and I invite you to come on December 15th to Wilmington, Ohio, if you’re anywhere in the anywhere in the area, drive up for the day. We’ll tell you more about it. I’ll tell you who owns the local restaurants and, you know, what there is to if you’re going to say, there’s this old hotel that was just sold recently to one of the, one of the residents of Wilmington and she just loved the old hotel and she bought it on a handshake. There’s no contract. She bought it on a handshake. And you know, she wanted to save this old hotel and the owner was like, well, I do, too, but I just can’t run it anymore. She said, well, what can I do? And he said, buy it. She said, I can’t afford it. And he said, yes, you can, and I’ll help, I’ll finance it myself. And they did a deal, but there’s no contract. And she’s struggling but she hasn’t missed a payment. I just love these people. And I want you to meet them. And we’ll be there December 15th. Make your plans, if you can. Come with the kids because Santa’s going to be there and there’s lots of surprises. It’s going to be one of hopefully if anybody went to 8/28, if you went, you know that you’ve never felt anything like that before. And everybody I know that I have met that was at 8/28 said, man, I just, I just, I crave that feeling. I just wish I could feel that again. Well, you’re going to feel it again this December. And this time, this is I believe that this will be a Christmas, a Christmas event that will set your feet on the right path for Christmas and your kids, too. You’ll feel something. My goal is, as I told the guys who, you know, are on city council and everything else in Wilmington, I said, you know, here’s the thing that I hope. I hope that this makes such an impression on people and you when people come to visit, they feel your spirit of your town so strongly that next year you are deluged with letters and cards and calls saying, are you doing that again. And I think they will. Maybe this is the first Christmas, the beginning of the Christmas tradition in Wilmington, Ohio. Come.

Broadcast Blues documentary about the US media

Broadcast Blues Documentary is located here

A scathing look at the state of American broadcasting today.

In a no holds barred exposé, veteran journalist Sue Wilson explains how the predominantly conservative corporations controlling talk radio are influencing American public opinion and actually changing the way we vote. She details how false and vitriolic hate campaigns are broadcast as legitimate news reports and laments the lack of government controls which should ensure radio and television broadcasters are upholding their public interest obligations.

Through a series of vignettes, Wilson shows how media policy changes, stemming from the Reagan era, have corrupted American news, information, and even public safety. She gives as a prime example, the recent Fox News court ruling that news does not have to be true.

Wilson says it is up to the public to hold broadcasters as well as the government regulators accountable in order to “take the media back”.

Complete text of Bernie Sanders’ speech about allowing Bush Tax Cuts to continue to cause debt havoc to US Government budget

Monday, December 13th, 2010

I think what is going on in this country and why the anxiety level is so high is not just that people are worried about themselves–parents worry more about their kids than they do about themselves. But what parents are sitting around and worrying about now is they are saying: Will, for the first time in the modern history of this country, my kids have a lower standard of living than their parents?

Will my kids earn less income? Will my kids not have the education I have? Will my kids not have the opportunity to travel and learn and grow as I have done? Are the best days of America behind us? That is really the question. I don’t think that has to be the case.

But I will tell my colleagues, as I mentioned earlier, if we are going to change the national priorities in this country, if we are going to start devoting our energy and our attention to the needs of working families and the middle class, we have to defeat this proposal and we have to defeat similar types of proposals which come down the pike. When this country has a $13.7 trillion national debt, it is insane–nothing less than insane–to be talking about huge tax breaks for people who don’t need them. Again, as I mentioned earlier, ironically, we have a lot of these millionaires out there who apparently love their country more than some of the people in this Chamber.

You have some of the richest people in America–Bill Gates and all the good, charitable work he does, and Warren Buffet and many others–who are saying: I am doing just fine. I am a billionaire or a multimillionaire. I don’t need your tax breaks. I am worried about the fact that we have the highest rate of childhood poverty; invest in our children. I am worried that our infrastructure is crumbling; invest in our infrastructure. I am worried that 45,000 Americans are dying this year who don’t have access to health care; invest in health care. I am worried about global warming; invest in transforming our energy system. These are patriotic Americans. They love their country. They are saying to us: We don’t even want it.

So we are giving money to people who, in some cases, don’t even want it. I do know there are others out there who do want it. I think if there is one issue that we as a Congress and a government have to address, it is the extraordinary level of greed in this country. We have to stand tall and draw a line in the sand and simply say: Enough is enough. How much do you want? How much do you need? How many yachts can you own? How many homes can you have? Isn’t it enough that the top 1 percent now earns 23.5 percent of the income in this country? How much more do they want? Do they want 30 percent, 35 percent? Isn’t it enough that the top 1 percent owns more wealth than the bottom 90 percent? How much more do they need?

Bernie Sanders- American Hero

Friday, December 10th, 2010

“This nation has a record breaking, $13.8 trillion national debt at the same time as the middle class is collapsing and poverty is increasing,” Mr. Sanders said. “It seems to me to be unconscionable, unconscionable for my conservative friends and for everybody else in this country to be driving up this already too high national debt by giving tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires who don’t need it and in some cases, Mr. President, don’t even want it.”

(He was referring to the Senate President pro tempore, not speaking to Mr. Obama directly.)

“Two of the wealthiest people in the world — Bill Gates of Microsoft, Warren Buffett, Berkshire — billionaires. They said ‘It’s absurd. We don’t need a tax break.’ All over the country, you hear a lot of folks who have a lot of money saying ‘don’t drive up the deficit and force our kids to pay higher taxes to pay off the national debt in order to give tax breaks to the richest people in this country.’”

Income Inequality and the Great Recession. A report by Senator Schumer.

Friday, December 10th, 2010

While the rich have gotten richer, middle?class Americans have been left behind. Between 1967

So how much did the rich used to pay during America’s heyday?

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Democracy cannot be safe, President Franklin Roosevelt warned Congress in 1938, “if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself.”

The richest 1.5 percent of Americans, FDR would go on to note in that 1938 message, were raking in as much income as everyone in America’s bottom 47 percent combined.

Our contemporary super rich, research from Berkeley economist Emmanuel Saez documents, are actually taking home a substantially higher share of America’s income than their counterparts back in FDR’s time.

Americans of FDR’s time worried deeply about the concentration of economic power. Today, 70 years later, we have cause for concern even greater.

A report on dog bites shows dogs are incredibly safe in the home

Monday, December 6th, 2010

There are 77.5 million owned dogs in the US — that means that .4%  of dogs will be involved in an incident that requires an ER visit and  .01% will be involved in an incident that involves an overnight stay.   So with that many owned dogs, only 1 out of 10,000 will be involved in  an incident that would require a hospital stay each year.  So dogs are  incredibly safe.  Story is located here.

GOP admits the Bush Tax Cuts were a trap in order to defund the government and be the precursor to privatizing more things in America

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

When the tax cuts were enacted, with an expiration date, Republicans and Bush officials understood the political advantages of the “fiscal time bomb” they were setting. As Kurtz puts it: “At some point in the way distant future, Democrats could be accused of raising taxes if they tried to undo the Bush breaks and return to Clinton-era levels of taxation.” Democrats understood this, too: Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) told the Washington Post at the time that “[Bush is] going to be out of office when the roof falls in.”  Story is located here
